If you, like thousands of other Americans, have Googled to find out why we are in the middle of a nationwide ammunition shortage, you would have stumbled across this 2007 blog entry.
In it, I corrected a poorly researched Associated Press story by Estes Thompson that claimed the militarys consumption of ammunition was responsible for police ammunition shortages here in the United States. Few things could have been further from the truth, but it seems rather apparent, in retrospect, that the goal of that AP article wasnt to find the truth as much as it was to (falsely) lay blame for the police ammunition shortages at the feet of George W. Bush.
The real fact of the matter is that the military got the bulk of its small arms (pistol, rifle, machine gun) ammunition from one contracted ammunition plant, and that plant wasnt even running near capacity. ..

Will work for Ammo !
Different dates, my Bushmaster is California bought about 2000.
And the libs will all come running over to the conservative part of town for protection when TSHTF.
Gotcha.
Stop following me around. LOL.
LOL -classic. Picturing some guy with a jewler’s loop, and a green armband, painstakingly signing rouds with a quill penn by candlelight...
You can tell he is a liberal, though, because he is signing the brass...
Thank ye kindly for the plink
Bastards!
In the immortal words of Don Rumsfeld: You go to war with the ammo you have, not the ammo you wish you had.
I have read rumors that the Obama administration wants to ban the importation of "military" rifle ammunition and handgun ammunition (actually, they want to ban a lot more than that). Once importation is cut off, I imagine they will try to ban the production of ammo that contains lead, they will require each bullet to have a serial number and they will demand you turn in old ammo that does not have a serial number. These are all on the Democrats' wish list.
I went to a suburban local gun store today and found a dearth of ammunition. No .223 at all. Then I went to a bigbbox hunting/fishing store and found some shotgun shells and a few eccentric rifle cartridges, that’s all. Plus one little box of .308.
I shopped in Lakewood, CO. I don’t know if we have a “liberal side of town” — maybe Boulder? The gun shops fled Denver, of course, around the 1990’s.
“but won’t financially support the NRA and other pro-gun lobbying orgs”
Isn’t that precisely how Walmart can keep prices so low?
Yes it’s true, in liberal bastions, there is plentiful ammo. Not to say the shop I like hasn’t been rockin’ since Nov.4th, but there has been plenty of ammo everytime I visited.
Thanks for the “get more ammo” ping.
Purely coincidence. GMTA. :-)
Concur. Often, when I wish to make a remark, I discover that you have already made it.
A buddy of mine in CT said this AM that the Cabela’s there was out of 223.
