Palin Transmits Two Bills on In-State Gas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 09-41

Governor Transmits Two Bills on In-State Gas February 27, 2009, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin today transmitted two pieces of legislation to the House and Senate rules committees as part of an action plan to jump start an in-state natural gas pipeline.

The Action Plan on In-State Gas will be laid out more completely on Tuesday, March 3. It will include an evaluation of options for routes, gas resources, and potential industrial and residential users. A specific timetable will be established to begin work on right-of-way and permitting, as well as preliminary engineering and cost estimates. The plan will form the foundation of development of in-state gas transportation systems to deliver the resource to the people of Alaska.

“Alaskans have been excited about the progress made toward our big gas line, which will secure our fiscal future as we take this abundant resource to Lower 48 markets,” Governor Palin said. “But we know that we cannot wait for that project to come to fruition before addressing our own heating and power-generating needs. My administration is committed to getting the ball rolling now on a pipeline strictly for Alaskans.”

The first bill broadens the responsibilities of the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority (ANGDA). Under current law, ANGDA is restricted to examining and promoting a pipeline project intended to deliver North Slope natural gas to tidewater for export as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The requested revisions will allow ANGDA to examine and pursue all options to supply Alaskans with affordable, clean-burning natural gas.

The second bill proposes changes to the Right Of Way Leasing Act and the Pipeline Act. The bill addresses technical right-of-way issues for pipelines and clarifies oversight by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska.

This package of proposed legislation will form the initial statutory framework for the development of an in-state gasline for use by Alaskans.

Is expansion/population growth driving this?

Alaskans pay more than the rest of America for gas. This is to lower the prices for domestic Alaskan consumption. Regarding population growth... since 2000 it has increased 10%.

So she is simply governing with common sense. To the benefit of her constituents. The world would be a different place right now if she was VP.

She’ll have her work cut out to undo the damage Obama will have done after the four year rape of America.

Don’t understand your statement. Natural gas and gasoline are higher in Alaska? But tax rebates off set that because each citizen stands to earn from the sales?

Natural gas and gasoline are higher in Alaska?

Yes.

But tax rebates off set that because each citizen stands to earn from the sales?

Yes. But making it even more affordable is good, isn't it?

ALL RIGHT, Sarah! You GO, girl. The Fed.gov stopped ARCO (Atlantic Richfield Company), the company that DISCOVERED the North Slope oil fields, from building a gas pipeline, 30 long years ago!

Palin is a doer; tirelessly optimistic. She'll be a magnificent President.

There was no pipeline built to carry the Alaskan gas south because the cost of the pipeline made the gas to expensive to compete with the lower 48 gas that was abundent and cheap. The Alaskan gas was stranded.

In the 1990s it was thought that using gas to generate electricity would outstrip the lower 48 supply and drive price up, opening the door for gas imported from Alaska and around the world.

The first NG shortage began in 2000 and caused significant problems in 2001 and 2002.

Palin has got the gas pipeline deal so screwed up many are saying that the Alaska gas is going to be stranded for another 25 years.

Palin has got the gas pipeline deal so screwed upBecause of the oversupply and underdemand, many are saying that the Alaska gas is going to be stranded for another 25 years.

Wow, the rest of your analysis was spot on, how the Palin thingy got in there is beyond belief!

Not that hard to believe. You see this formula on here all day long. Make a cogent and coherent point on one subject then throw in your bias out there in the final sentence. The final slam on Palin was the real point of his whole post.

LOL

“Alaskans have been excited about the progress made toward our big gas line”

This is one Alaskan that is not. Why, bcause there has been NO progress - unless you call giving away STate $ as progress....

Hey saraH, call me when someone starts buying pipe - OK?

Until then it is just a lot of expensive (half a billion expensive) hot air.

Cost of construction was not the issue for the gas pipeline - approval of PERMITS was!

There has never been a gas shortage. There has been a lack of pipelines...not the same thing. Enron and the rest of the natural gas traders drove the price up by manipulating the market.

It will be difficult to finance this project now. Who will lend the money now?

ARCO and Exxon were going to finance it in the 70’s. Who knows nowadays, since no one can do anything without the government any more.
