EPA says farm dust requires regulation

Nothing says summer in Iowa like a cloud of dust behind a combine.

But what may be a fact of life for farmers is a cause for concern to federal regulators, who are refusing to exempt growers from new environmental regulations.

It's left some farmers feeling bemused and more than a little frustrated.

"It's such a non-commonsense idea that you can keep dust within a property line when the wind blows," said Sen. Charles Grassley, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee who still farms in northeast Iowa.

It’ll keep going on for as long as we put up with. If, for example, they couldn’t find anyone to work as an EPA inspector, it would stop.

“...they’ll turn on him like hungry wolves if screws with them.”

All of our “Atlas Srugged” fantasies pale in comparison to what not bringing in the harvest one season would do.

I doubt 90% of those Obama voters even hear about these things.
Much less believe it, or just see it as an attack from the right.

Hate and the hunger for CONTROL are the driving motives. However, many people, including independents and even Democrats, are fast beginning to regret voting Obama in.

Call for REFORM in 2010-2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They don’t care about the dust. What they want is to ruin our economy. Here’s another state primed to leave the union.

“Roger Zylstra, a director with the Iowa Corngrowers Association, said if left alone, farmers can compete worldwide. But regulation could impede their success.

He said there seems to be a disconnect between farmers and policymakers.

“Many of the people that are making the rules, it feels like they really don't know what (farming) issues are,” said Zylstra, a Lynnville resident who has worked on a farm for 35 years.

Zylstra said it's hard not to get frustrated.”

Screw Zylstra and all the Iowa farmers that elected that bastard! Let them wallow in the commie crap they put in office!

A lot of farmers did not vote for Obama, though.

‘Tis a shame. Maybe this will wake up the ignorant masses. I doubt it.

Let’s just outlaw farming and gardening and be done with it.

“Idiocy! Absolute idiocy!”
Everytime I read about environmentalists, I think of the character “Walter Peck” in Ghostbusters. Sometimes you just have to smile and nod.

Last summer I became very ill for a long time after mowing some tall grass in my back yard, a process that stirred up a lot of dust. While researching what might have happened to me, I came across a description of something called farmer's lung that seemed to match my symptoms exactly.

Apparently this is usually caused by mold spores that might come from wet hay, etc, but it can be caused by other fine particulate matter found on farms.

I don't know if this justifies regulation, but there is no question that some types of dust from farming operations can make you very, very sick.
