Bush Talks About Life Outside the White House 'The Only Thing We Don't Have Are the Newspapers,' Says Former First Lady By JONATHAN KARL and KAREN TRAVERS
HOUSTON Feb. 26, 2009
Commercial airline travel, trips to the hardware store for nightlights and walks around the neighborhood all part of everyday life these days for former President George W. Bush and his wife, former first lady Laura Bush.
In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Mrs. Bush said she and her husband were settling into a normal, post-presidency life at their new home in the Preston Hollow section of Dallas after spending a month at their ranch in Crawford while the house was finished.
Watch This Exclusive Interview With Laura Bush Tonight on 'World News' at 6:30 p.m. ET, and Again Tomorrow on 'Good Morning America', 7 a.m. ET
Mrs. Bush said she has yet to cook a meal herself, because friends have been bringing over prepared dinners to welcome them back to town. The Bushes have had several large dinner parties with old friends, but they had to resort to borrowing furniture to accommodate their guests.
"We have very little furniture. We don't have a kitchen table or a dining room table," she said. "Friends loaned me a kitchen table and the other night I had 16 people for dinner and I had to borrow chairs from the Secret Service next door."
After years of having everything they wanted right at their finger tips, the Bushes are finding that sometimes the little things are the most difficult to get.
"The only thing we don't have are the newspapers. It has been slow to get The Dallas Morning News delivered," she said. "People bring the newspaper to us later in the day. It's just not being delivered yet."

“How can these pols be from New England or Texas when their parents spend their lives in D.C.? Its a charade, and were buying it, BDS or no BDS! Theyre all from D.C. and the suburbs, and thats the end of it!”

Again, get your facts straight.
On January 20, George W Bush couldn’t get out of DC and back to Texas fast enough (from his perspective). As for his parents, George H W Bush and his lovely bride Barbara live in Houston, TX (and they have a summer home in Maine).
Personal/political pettiness is a pathetic trait for a supposed conservative.
Thank you [and I won’t say a word to my hubby (ha)!]
Haha......
Thank you. I’ve always thought if people actually looked at President Bush without pure hatred, they would have a very different outlook.
Because we were not hit again does not mean that Bush kept us safe. His refusal to close our borders jeapordized every one of us in this country.
Millions of people came across those borders. Terrorists want to inflict maximum damage to America. I pray that they have not spent the last eight years inside the country planning an attack that will out do 9/11.
Unpersuasive. Carpetbaggers all of them, including your beloved Obambi, and please note that of all complaints against him, you never heard anything about carpetbagging, that’s how used to it we all are. The kids of Robert Kennedy grew up in a Virginia or Maryland suburb, they’re all carpetbagging now. The Bushes are a New England aristocracy, period, and Dubya’s impatience to get back to Texas, or dad’s empty apartment in Houston when he was representing the state don’t ever change that. Just the facts, ma’am!
I’m soooo sick of them. Maybe there’s a great big hole they can jump into and cover up their liddle heads so we don’t have to be bothered.
Don’t we deserve better than both?
Our country is dying; and the dollar is going to be worth a mexican peso in a few years unless the rest of the world invests in America to keep us afloat.
12 TRILLION DEBT is OK with you?
Talk about deranged........
I couldn’t care less about Obama and the Kennedys; my response concerned the Bush family.
ONE MORE TIME:
George H. W. Bush moved to Texas SIXTY YEARS (60) ago. He first lived in Odessa, then moved to Midland and finally settled in Houston, where he lives to this day.
George W Bush moved with his parents to Texas when he was a mere two-years-old. Other than schooling and the presidency, he has lived in Texas every year since.
Only the simple-minded and/or the intellectually lazy lump ALL POLITICIANS together into a single group so that said group can be more easily derided and summarily dismissed.
Yes indeed, only the uneducated rush to make judgments about people they don’t know, and dismiss others as inferior to them! Once again: carpetbagging opportunists of your beloved political party in your beloved state, with fake accents to boot, get it?!
I should have said that there were no more attacks on his watch. Obama is inviting attacks. That was my point.
:-)
. . . you’re really rather “revolting”, get it?! . . . take your meds and give it a rest.
I can see why I don't tend to come onto threads like this one because Bush Bashers NEVER quit!
They just keep on harping about his falts instead of adding the positive things and balancing both out and finding out that both he and Laura are basically good, decent HUMAN BEINGS!
You and Starwise have better stamina than I do to be able to stay on a thread like this one with all the hateful bashers here.
OK. It just occurred to me that the changes in communication technology is incredible. Do you remember hearing anything about the way the Pony Express was such an improvement in getting the mail through?
I think that I read somewhere that letters used to take months to get from the frontier back to the East. Now we are having a conversation in real time. AMAZING!
TAKE YOUE HATEFUL SELF OUT OF HERE!
I think I made a "Troll" mad at me
But I don't give a rip!
I'm tired of the Bush Bashing!
So I told them off!
(By the way, learn the proper use of exclamation points and capitalization. It smacks of illiteracy.)
