Bush Talks About Life Outside the White House 'The Only Thing We Don't Have Are the Newspapers,' Says Former First Lady By JONATHAN KARL and KAREN TRAVERS
HOUSTON Feb. 26, 2009
Commercial airline travel, trips to the hardware store for nightlights and walks around the neighborhood all part of everyday life these days for former President George W. Bush and his wife, former first lady Laura Bush.
In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Mrs. Bush said she and her husband were settling into a normal, post-presidency life at their new home in the Preston Hollow section of Dallas after spending a month at their ranch in Crawford while the house was finished.

Mrs. Bush said she has yet to cook a meal herself, because friends have been bringing over prepared dinners to welcome them back to town. The Bushes have had several large dinner parties with old friends, but they had to resort to borrowing furniture to accommodate their guests.
"We have very little furniture. We don't have a kitchen table or a dining room table," she said. "Friends loaned me a kitchen table and the other night I had 16 people for dinner and I had to borrow chairs from the Secret Service next door."
After years of having everything they wanted right at their finger tips, the Bushes are finding that sometimes the little things are the most difficult to get.
"The only thing we don't have are the newspapers. It has been slow to get The Dallas Morning News delivered," she said. "People bring the newspaper to us later in the day. It's just not being delivered yet."

Give it a rest.
Thank you from a BushBot.
He was BORN in Maine, but his parents moved the family to Texas, when he was still a child. I guess spending over 55 years, including his 'growing up years' in Texas doesn't make him 'Texan' enough for you. *rolls eyes*
Keep guessing.
Just for the record W was Born July 6, 1946 (age 62) New Haven, Connecticut
Sure it did. They wouldn't have allowed him to spend any time there, if it hadn't.
It is my understanding that there are several buidings on the property, besides the main house, suitable for housing the Secret Service, and other guests. In fact, I think, the Secret Service stayed in what had been the original home on the property, before Pres. Bush and Laura built the new, main house. That 4000 or so Sq. Ft. new house is the one that has lots of very environmentally friendly features. Pres. Bush LIVED the conservation movement, unlike that blowhard hypocrite, Algore, who lives in his fossil fuel guzzling 10000 sq. foot house in TN, buying his 'indulgences' from the Church of the Environment, while preaching that everyone ELSE should reduce their lifestyles.
“W’s no Reagan as it turns out.”
Actually the reverse is true — revisionist history should be the province of leftists not conservatives (however agenda driven).
The BDS trash at FR is as annoying as it is pathetic!
Fine, he was born in New England somewhere. Obviously, I never cared, or paid attention to that. The point is that he is NOT a New Englander. He spent his formative years in Texas, so that makes him a TEXAN.
Good for them.
They deserve it.
I could never figure out why he didn’t close your southern border, but some how her kept America safe.
Obama is going to bring half of Gaza here, and rebuild the rest of it for , ahem, his supporters.
BDS fool.
How can these pols be from New England or Texas when their parents spend their lives in D.C.? It’s a charade, and we’re buying it, BDS or no BDS! They’re all from D.C. and the suburbs, and that’s the end of it!
Bushbot...troll.
FOR FUTURE REFERENCE:
When obtuse, BDS-infested Freepers lie about the Bush legacy, ask them the following:
1.) Who controlled Congress when President Reagan left office?
SENATE (1985-87) 54 Republicans / 46 Democrats
SENATE (1989-91) 55 Democrats / 45 Republicans
http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/history/one_item_and_teasers/partydiv.htm
HOUSE (1981-83) 242 Democrats / 192 Republicans
HOUSE (1989-91) 260 Democrats / 175 Republicans
http://clerk.house.gov/art_history/house_history/partyDiv.html
-
2.) During the 1992 election cycle, on whom did the electorate blame the bad economy — an assessment that ended up delivering the White House to Bill Clinton?
According to Gallup, a majority blamed the economic policies of Ronald Reagan (who at the time had a lower post-presidency JA rating than Jimmy Carter 47% to 49%).
-
3.) Why do conservatives ignore President Reagans historically high spending/deficits as well as other leftist-oriented policies (e.g., amnesty)?
Conservatives claim they ignore Reagans deficits/ because he (Reagan) was fighting and winning a COLD war at the time.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I do believe that during his tenure, President Bush was fighting and winning a HOT war — and a hot war trumps a cold war every time!
Additional perspective from Karl Rove:
At home, Mr. Bush cut income taxes for every American who pays taxes. He also cut taxes on capital, investment and savings. The result was 52 months of growth and the strongest economy of any developed country.
Mr. Bush was right to match tax cuts with spending restraint. This is a source of dispute, especially among conservatives, but the record is there to see. Bill Clintons last budget increased domestic nonsecurity discretionary spending by 16%. Mr. Bush cut that to 6.2% growth in his first budget, 5.5% in his second, 4.3% in his third, 2.2% in his fourth, and then below inflation, on average, since. That isnt the sum total of the fiscal record, of course but its a key part of it.

Hey, Obambi has kept you and your family safe for a month, aren’t you grateful?
I am sorry.
