ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A former CIA agent rose to the agency's No. 3 rank despite a record of misconduct that stretched over 20 years, prosecutors said, until his career came to an end with his conviction in a bribery scheme.

In court papers, prosecutors describe how Kyle "Dusty" Foggo was investigated in the late 1980s for punching a bicyclist in a traffic dispute and for numerous relationships with foreign women that could have compromised security.

...

Instead, Foggo is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria after pleading guilty to a single count of fraud as part of a plea bargain. He is the highest ranking CIA officer ever to be convicted of a federal felony.

All of which eminently qualified him to be DCI under Obama.

Foggo rose through the ranks to become the agency's executive director from 2004 to 2006. Had his crimes gone uncovered, he planned to retire and run for Congress in San Diego, according to prosecutors.

We dodged a bullet there.

Prosecutors agreed as part of the plea bargain that they would not seek a sentence longer than three years.

Not enough! I suspect this was the reason Carol Lam was taken out as U.S. Atty in San Diego. She would have gone for the jugular.

On another note, how is it that in February 2008 Brent Wilkes was sentenced to 12 Years in prison but was RELEASED last month? Was that one of Bush's pardons? Un-frickin' believable! (excuse my language).

According to the Bureau of Prisons website:

Name Register # Age-Race-Sex Release Date Location
BRENT ROGER WILKES 00858-298 54-White-M 01-06-2009 RELEASED

Okay... False alarm. I calmed down now. He’s free on bail, pending appeal.

Congressman’s briber finally makes bail
Brent Wilkes leaves prison on appeal
January 6, 2009

Brent Wilkes, the Poway man who was at the center of a corruption scandal that brought down former U.S. Rep Randy “Duke” Cunningham, walked out of a federal prison Tuesday, free on $2 million bail while he appeals his conviction.

It marked the first time Wilkes, 54, has been out of custody since February, when he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for bribery, conspiracy, fraud and wire-tapping for his role in bribing the ex-North County Republican lawmaker. It is the largest congressional corruption case ever uncovered.

Yes. He was Republican, as was Brent Wilkes (one of GWB’s “pioneers,” raising the big bucks for his election.)

I see Plame as a partisan tool.

The Cunningham/Wilkes/Foggo gang were just downright criminals.

I give you props for staying tuned in to all these things. There are some things I merely tune out on, there’s so much carp going on these days.

Good on you. Your comments make sense to me. Thanks for making them.
