WASHINGTON - From a Lexington office complex, Mitt Romney's political action committee has ensured the former presidential candidate's omnipresence on cable news shows, ....

But for the next year and a half, the center of Romney's political universe will shift west to Sacramento, where key parts of his operation have reassembled on behalf of Meg Whitman, a longtime friend and former business colleague ....

The former eBay CEO is still readying her headquarters, but it has already become something of a campaign-in-exile for Romney's ambitions, which could include another presidential run in 2012....

"Mitt's going to be involved in dozens and dozens of races, but one that he's particularly excited about is the race for governor of California," said Eric Fehrnstrom, a Romney spokesman....

A Whitman victory could deliver Romney a valuable foothold in a state that will likely be a big, early prize on the Republican nominating calendar. Her 2010 campaign will also offer a...

Romney and Whitman both harshly criticized the $787 billion stimulus package championed by President Obama and congressional Democrats, saying it includes too much bloated spending and not enough tax cuts. Whitman is also railing against the plan, signed into law yesterday, of tax increases and spending cuts to plug California's $42 billion budget deficit, saying in a statement it "will kill jobs, hurt families, and make future deficits worse."

The parallel careers of Romney and Whitman - ...

Yet Romney is the only one of the three considered a possible 2012 presidential candidate, ...

50 years ago there weren’t the expensive test and treatments that exist today. They couldn’t keep really premature babies, or very old people, alive with therapies costing millions. It was a different world.

I think what Romney figured, to the extent I was paying attention at the time, is that the taxpayers were already paying for the care of the uninsured, either through state insurance programs, or from the cost-shifting taking place when the uninsured would show up at a hospital emergency room and either give a phony name or just skip out on the bill. In fact, one of the reasons that medical bills are currently so high — in addition to the increasing exotic and expensive treatments — is the existence of the free-riders.

"...I don’t believe this is about anything beyond Romney being a Mormon."

I concur.

‘You may prevail for a little while...’

I MAY PREVAIL?

Seriously, are you on CRACK?

I note the reality of California’s voter demographics, and you act like I’m the ‘bad guy’ here.

Thats insane, as nicely as I can word it. The problem isn’t ‘Badeye at Free Republic’, it isn’t Mitt Romney, nor is it Meg Whitman.

The problem is California is a Liberal Enclave, by a huge margin demographically, for reasons we all know.

Attacking those of us that acknowledge the reality in that state is always going to be counter productive on election day. Always.

Til you and others like you wake up to this simple, obvious to most, fact, you’ll continue to lose ground poltiically, rather than gain ground.

Let alone get ahead of the liberals there.

Didn’t say ‘you’ and obviously it isn’t ‘last’ given this is my SECOND post after that one.

(chuckle)

"Yeah, save the slur for last."

How can you call that a slur?

It is exactly what is evident.

Has been for many months now.

Romney was certainly more competent in every endeavor than McCain ever was in his path.

Do you have a source for that ridiculous assertion?

I see reading comprehension isn't one of your strong suits. That was my opinion and that is what I said. So, its not ridiculous.

>>>>>Huckster was in the race solely to block Romney.

Now that is ridiculous. Got a source for that assertion?

there isn't a shadow of doubt that the woman is a hardcore liberal....

As usual, your hyperbole discredits your whole argument.

Here is an excerpt from Whitman's testimony before Eric Cantor's Working Group regarding the stimulus.

In my judgment, we have to avoid, at all costs, tax increases. That would be the worst possible thing to do and will make a bad economy even worse. Beyond that, targeted tax relief should be expanded upon. We need to make permanent the R&D tax credit which is especially important to technology oriented companies which has been the growth engine for California and many tech oriented state economies....

We also need to reduce corporate tax rates. This applies to small, medium and large businesses. At 35 percent, we have the second highest corporate rates in the world. It restricts the growth of small enterprises that need to plow capital back into their businesses and forces companies and jobs to move overseas.

Let me now briefly turn to ways we can help the middle class. Permanent reductions in marginal tax rates for the middle class will have a much greater positive impact than just providing refundable tax credits. We have learned time and again that refunds alone do very little to stimulate the economy and improve peoples’ economic lives unless they are coupled with permanent tax cuts. We should also not raise any personal or investment tax rates. At exactly the wrong time it will hurt our ...

There is also a youtube video of the testimony where one can assess her demeanor and sincerity of commitment to fiscal conservatism: Economic Recovery Working Group Hearing

She is far from the perfect conservative, but she is certainly no "hardcore liberal." The sad reality for Californians is that a perfect conservative would have a very hard time winning statewide office here.

It is a slur, and a crutch for Romney’s supporters. They can’t debate the issues, so they try and paint their political opponents as bigots. It’s a nasty thing to do, but normal for leftwingers.

“Speaks volumes about his committment to the party.”

The man is in his 60s and part of a famous Republican dynasty family.

If you look at his life you will see the truth of his connection to the republican party and conservatism, it is mostly hostile, and for many years he even renounced the republican party, even when he rejoined after Reagan was gone.

Pro-aborts and gun-grabbers always lie about money.

If someone will sell out defenseless children and help destroy our most important liberties, they will sell you out on the money.

And they always do.

Do you endorse Meg Whitman as Governor of California?

Do you think that Romney’s endorsement of this pro-abortion, pro-gun-banning, pro-illegal alien candidate says anything about his words to the American people in the last election?

In light of his record as Governor of supporting the very things Whitman supports, of course.

While I won’t support her with my money, she would most likely govern California more competently than Arnold has or any democrat ever could.

That is 250K, right? Right!

>>>>>The difference between us is...

I'm a conservative and you're NOT.

>>>>>You’ve just displayed how we got John McCain as the nominee, with only 37% support from Republicans during the primaries when they actually ‘mattered’.

I voted for Fred Thompson and so far, you STILL haven't offered one bit of evidence to back up your empty headed posts.

You're a dolt! LOL

I don't have to remind you about the Mulford Act and the Therapeutic Abortion Act. People can be wrong and they can make mistakes. Yet, hearts and minds can also be converted. I am praying for conversion.
