Jindal isn't toast. Bill Clinton's national debut speech at the 1988 Democratic convention in Atlanta (nominating Michael Dukakis) was considered so bad and boring that it was thought to be a "career killer". And he went on to become president.
“And of course, constitutionally Jindal can never be president anyway.”
Read the speech dammit... The guy was born in Louisiana, he is qualified to be President.
I thought the personal backstory comments were completely out of place as well. He wasted valuable time to score points against Obama's AND Pelosi & Reid (who are wildly unpopular).
In fact, he would've said the few obligatory "nice" things about the new President, and then just dismissed him. That would have given him and the GOP an opportunity to plant a big seed of responsibility for this mess squarely at the feet of Pelosi and Reid.
I liked Jindal and still do. But the speech was poorly constructed and the delivery was worse. The GOP really, really blew a great opportunity to separate themselves from Bush and to begin to redefine themselves, their goals and their agenda. They blew it.
That's a great point. I forgot completely about that speech. And apparently, so did most of America by 1992.
I think the speech did far more damage to the GOP (in lost opportunity costs) than it did to Jindal in the long run. The GOP really dropped the ball.
I get the idea. No human is perfect so lets pick apart our best leaders so Obama has 8 years instead of 4.
If Jindhal was appointed President tomorrow it would be the salvation of American civilization. He is that much better than Obama.
By 2012, Jindhal will have more governing experience than GWB, Obama, Reagan or Carter. Conservative, competent, capable.
He would make a great nominee.

Still, a critical missed oppty. The Republic didn't hang in threat of collapse in 1988, though.
I have great hopes for Bobby Jindal and am among those disappointed in last night’s “performance.” He is brilliant, has a great American story and is well spoken. I have no idea what happened last night! Let’s chalk it up and hope he learned from the experience and will bring his best game next time. Let’s remember, there is no room, no slack for a conservative candidate. The media stands ready to assault anyone who dares to differ with them and their agenda.
Jindal was put in a “no-win” situation last night, and heads should roll at the RNC for even thinking of putting him on last night.
“Say the things we are already thinking in our heads.”
Funny, but “Americans can do anything” is one of those things in my head. Jindhal had some ‘right on’ points that sound like a Rush monologue speech.
The point has been made that his delivery was not the fire-and-brimstone the base would want to hear. But if he did that, it would be off-key in this response setting. Give him time.
My problem is, I'm in marketing. EVERYthing in life is about sales/selling. EVERYthing needs to be marketed properly, or you won't achieve your goal, no matter how honorable. That part of human nature is definitely sad. Sad, but just as definitely true. You cannot fight the basics of human nature, you need to be smart and "work" them to your favor, so that the right person CAN win and do his/her best for our dear Country.
The best thing....there are more Patriots than punks. I'm a firm believer in that, or I'd have thrown in the towel a loooong time ago. I still believe in all that you and I hold dear.

You all are putting too much into this first national prime time speech by Jindal. Yes, it could have been delivered better, but it is way too early and foolish to write off Jindal as a viable GOP presidential candidate in 2012 based on this one speech in February, 2009.
Remember, we are a 30 minute (or second) country and people (even most Freepers) will forget about this speech in a few weeks or so. 2012 is a long ways off and Jindal has plenty of time to improve on his speech making skills.
Jindal is smart and will use this experience and the criticism on the delivery of the speech he received, to improve on his speech delivery skills the next time he gets an opportunity to deliver a major speech (which he will get between now and 2012). I remember he did just fine after the hurricanes hit the gulf coast last summer and I'm sure in future opportunities, his delivery will be much better.
All those who think his presidential candidacy in 2012 is doomed based on this speech need to get a grip.
THAT'S ALL MOST OF US ARE SAYING...just to be clear.
Love it or hate it....we are a visual society and packing matters. We just now know what we need to fix with Gov. Jindal. It CAN be done and is MUCH easier than changing a man's character...FOR SURE.

I was just pleased with hearing someone speak for 20 minutes that wasn’t a flaming liberal.
Jindal will be fine and his actions will speak far louder than any words.
You ask the impossible. You cannot be a political leader without political power, and in a democracy that comes from getting elected.
If you want a non-elected ‘leader’, follow Newt.
My suggestion would be hire a woman that I know that has a degree in the psychology of selling. She was one of my bosses at a marketing network and KNOWS HER STUFF AND HOW TO TALK TO PEOPLE SO THEY HEAR YOU AND CAN EASILY REPEAT YOUR POINT TO THEIR FRIENDS AND CO-WORKERS.
