President Obama's address Tuesday to a joint session of Congress will have a heavy emphasis on the economy and will try to strike an optimistic tone, aides said.
That's a sign Obama has heard the criticism, including from former President Clinton, that he needs to mix sober talk with an upbeat bottom line.
"He believes we will meet these challenges and lift ourselves out of this" recession, one top aide said. "He will say, 'The best days are ahead of us.' "

Womb to the tomb gloom and doom. Isn’t this “new direction” stuff great?
Wonder how many times the non-leader will mention that he inherited everything.
Funny how he wanted the job so bad but can't do anything but blame others.
PATHETIC!
Gee, I can’t wait for the all the phony applause lines and standing ovations that accompany these speeches. Those idiot Republicans will join in, of course, when they should be sitting there showing the disapproval Chairman Hussein deserves.
He’s incapable of a “sober assessment”, because he’s not serious about fixing the problem.
He needs to make things worse as an excuse for expanding his power and destroying liberty!
Yep, from a dim witted congress
Mr. Obama now owns the economy.
The so called Stimulus Bill, the mortgage savings program, and the plan to save the banks(ugh) are all his now.
God help us.
abnd = abend ? Just askin’
“Wonder how many times the non-leader will mention that he inherited everything.”
Gee...you mean he inherited Dodd and Barney Frank (among others)?
Heard it all before ... “wealthy evil”, “redistribute wealth”, “green energy is god”, “higher taxes”, “more government intrusion”, “more sacrifice”. Blah, blah, blah ...
I think I’ll start sanding down the deck for a new coat of stain.
Obama blew it already with the depression talk.. The smart money will stay under the mattress...
Hey, Obama here's some leadership advice for you:
Do, or do not. There is no try.
Will you ping me if/when you can find a transcript of Jindal’s retort, afterwards?
I won’t be able to listen in, but I’ll bet it will be good! Thanks!
Yeah he wanted the job so bad but to him and the left it was to save us from the evil Republicans and BUSH by forcing America to become a Socialist State. Well thats where we are headed and God help us when this fails.
Will the Dow hit 6000 tomorrow??? Every time this mutt opens his mouth, it costs us a trillion dollars...
Some guy on CNBC this morning called out Dodd and Frank and their Fannie/Freddie connections. He said they were in charge of the Banking Committees for the last two years. It was refreshing to hear but I don’t think it will make the evening news any time soon.
Funny,I can’t listen to this guy sober!
“Funny,I cant listen to this guy sober!”
I don’t think you ever hear him when he is sober...I think this mutt is stoned...
The truth is out there for those who REALLY seek it.
