Apple chief executive Steve Jobs, who has taken a six-month medical leave from the company, will not attend Apple's shareholder meeting scheduled for this week, it was reported Monday.
Jobs' absence will mark the first time the company's co-founder has not attended the annual meeting in more than a decade, business news agency Bloomberg reported. Jobs is on medical leave until June.
Apple was not immediately available for comment.
Jobs' absence from the Feb. 25 meeting is likely to highlight the importance of having a succession plan in place for the iconic CEO whose vision and strategy is seen as the linchpin to the company's success over the last few years. Shareholders are likely to press Apple executives for their plans for a post-Jobs Apple.

I'm no fan of Steve Jobs on the basis of his political leanings, and I understand from those who have met and worked with him that he's very difficult.
That said, he's a genius of a particularly American sort. He's personally responsible for the creation of an absolutely incredible amount of value. He saw the future and staked everything to make it happen not once but three times (Apple, Pixar, and iPod).
I wish him well. I hope he gets through this situation alive.

Jobs is the core of Apple.Careful with your language. Wasn't Jobs once sued by the Beatles and their corporate entity, Apple Corps, Ltd. over his use of "their" name?

What I heard was that they got the cancer, but not before it destroyed his kidneys. I dunno. Lots of rumors.
Regardless of the details, he's obviously one sick puppy. I hope he manages to survive for a while longer -- he's done some really amazing things in the tech field and doubtless has more to contribute.

Wasn't Jobs once sued by the Beatles and their corporate entity, Apple Corps, Ltd. over his use of "their" name? He and Woz named "Apple Computer Company" after the "Apple" of the Beatles label (Apple Corps). The Steves were Beatles fans.
Apple Corps sued Apple Computer Company. They settled on an agreement that ACC could use the name so long as they never did anything with music (to stay off Apple Corps' toes).
That only lasted a couple decades. Then Jobs went for music. They worked it out again.
