Health Insurance For 46 Million More? No Problem: We’ll Save On IT!
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Remember the favorite dodge of politicians asked how they plan to pay for their latest pie-in-the-sky program? “We’ll eliminate fraud, waste and abuse,” they’d promise. Right.

Well, move over, FW&A, there’s a new dodge in town–improved information technology. And it will apparently save enough to go a long way toward paying for the health care insurance of 46 million Americans! At today’s White House press corps briefing, CBS’ Chip Reid asked this surprisingly good question:

“For people not terribly sophisticated about all this like me and average viewers out there, it just seems counter-intuitive that you would insure 46-some million people who aren’t insured now, and that would save money. How are you going to get the long-term deficits under control by health-care reform which means spending more for more people?”

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs bobbed and weaved, hemmed and hawed, rambled and meandered. But when he was done, he had pointed to only one measure—mentioning it twice—that would supposedly save money: improved information technology.

In their brilliance they will force all of us into a national health care system rather than make it easier for those w/o insurance to get it.

And deregulation would open a host of health insurance options. It is so sad to see this nonsense when there are simple solutions, instead we are about to smash everything.

Just wondering with all the liberal ass kissing going on, why doesn’t Gibbs take a seat with them and let a reporter take questions at the podium? Same difference.

If their dream national health care follows current medicaid rules, any one signing up for it who owns a home will get a lien on their property.....unless you’re someone who is a renter or who got a subprime loan, and then you’ll get bailed out twice!

What a stupid way to run a country...

Information technolgy to be achieved through nationalized health care is just like:

Alternative energy (1% of energy) being fostered by the construction of a huge federal energy grid.

It’s all insanity how about some loyal opposition figuring that out and saying so.

I generally agree, and Chip Reid has been one of the worst. But today, he actually asked a good question.

IT data systems will require all doctors to submit treatment plans for review.

“Oh, I see patient X is 72 and needs a bypass,” says the federal reviewer. “Sorry, Not cost effective, payment denied.” Thus saving some big bucks to be used on the newly insured.

It’s a magnificent plan....for triage.

Well yeah, you know how expensive medical charts make things. They are so right, I mean, it’s a national health care secret. If a dollar is even near a medical records room it gets sucked in. I have only seen it once, but sometimes what you think is the sound of paper shuffling is actually dollars being sucked into medical records.

My wife is a cancer survivor and scared to death of what they are planning. I used to think she was over-reacting now I am starting to worry. Most Americans don’t understand how truly radical Obama and this Congress are. People like Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Frank, Waxman, Rangel, Conyers will keep applying leftist gasoline even if this country is burning down around them.

By selling your medical history via an “accidental” disclosure of your private health data (see Veteran’s Administration security lapse histories) Obama will cut the deficit in half!

Good Lord! If the guvment IT is anything like the IT at the company I work for, we are in deep doo-doo. Over here, we say a daily prayer of thanksgiving that the IT department is not in charge of the coffee pot.

“My wife is a cancer survivor and scared to death of what they are planning.”

“Luckily” for my dad, he died 2 years ago, at 63 years old. He had worked from age 9 until the week he died, paid his own way through college and law school, and paid out of pocket for much of his cancer treatment. He never saw a penny of social security or medicaid.

Those of us who “do” are just S.O.L. Somebody’s gotta pay for the deadbeat bastards.

information technology is not going to get the cost of health insurance down.. anyone who thinks it will is nuts... and I, for one, will NOT agree to my information being placed on the web...
