Have 4 years flown by already?

Lately, I’ve been spending about 4X more on ammo than on food.

And I do not think I am alone in that.

Being prepared is not hysteria ... see also “Ant and grasshopper”.

And for those opting for the grasshopper strategy, this is one ant who won’t be feeding you if push comes to shove.

First, there was the big run on guns, both locally and nationally, when it was feared the Obama administration would quickly enact tougher gun legislation that would make it difficult to own guns.

Give them a minute or two more, they will.

Uh, Sun Sentinel, Zero was sworn into office on January 20th. It is now February 23rd.

Give him time...

Hysteria?

So if a Floridian wants to exercise Second Amendment rights, they’re hysterical. I thought only rural Pennsylvanians wanted to cling to their guns, apparently its also Floridians.

And when talk show hosts want to exercise First Amendment rights, they say Fairness is more important that Free Speech. (Although I don’t remember which Amendment is the Fairness Amendment)

I think it’s a good idea for all Americans to add another rifle or shotgun to their existing gun collection.

Buy a few boxes of ammo too.

Hysteria over a socialist / commie government?

Is that what I have?

History is quite clear on the cure for that kind of hysteria. I just don't remember the proper dosage.

Can anyone help me with that formula?

First, there was the big run on guns, both locally and nationally, when it was feared the Obama administration would quickly enact tougher gun legislation that would make it difficult to own guns.

Didn't happen. And doesn't figure to happen, particularly since the Supreme Court has reinforced the right of an individual to bear arms.

This author is a MORON!! Didn't happen!?!?! Zero's been in office for a MONTH! He's got 47 more months to ban guns. And just because the Supreme Court, the branch of "government" that liberals worship, says that we have a right to ban guns, liberals like to interpret that as meaning that we have a right to own a single shot pistol capable of firing only .22 shorts that we have to keep locked up at a police station, where we can only access it once a month to fire no more than 50 rounds at a time, after extensive mental and background checks.

Which means that in South Florida, the "normal Joe" who lives next-door might be filling up a spare room with ammo for an AR-15. Hardly a calming thought.

I'm one of those normal Joes who's never even been in a fist fight, and whose worst infraction against society has been speeding tickets, and very few of those. Everyone should be afraid of my small gun collection - I'm a thoroughly dangerous man.

Semi-automatic weapons should be banned, because the "normal Joe" simply doesn't need one, for protection or anything else.

You're right Adolf. Only the most intelligent liberal elite journalists like you should be able to determine who owns a gun.

But the ban has expired, and having more guns and ammo on the streets simply makes South Florida a more dangerous place, for cops and regular citizens alike.

Nothing like trotting out a tired, utterly disproven assertion to make your point. Where do I get one of these jobs as a "journalist" where I can ignore facts to make my point?

“Didn’t happen. And doesn’t figure to happen”

This is an uniformed and unrealistic assessment of a government controlled by Liberal/Socialist Democrats.

My guess is the dems are going to wait until April 16th to start passing this stuff so that citizens can't starve the beast with an open revolt when it comes.

Didn’t happen yet.

Sounds more like common sense to me, not hysteria.

I agree with the article. The hysteria needs to stop (more ammo for me!!!). I am almost out of 7.62x39 and have been waiting for over 3 months for my last bulk order to arrive! Of course, maybe I’m not being prudent because I am shooting my ammo instead of stockpiling it. I enjoy being proficient with my firearms.

Let’s see...a newspaper that buys ink and paper to express their 1st amendment right is attempting to lecture us about buing ONE or TWO guns and 10 pounds of ammunition...and then calls us hysterical.

Hey you leftist bassturds...STFU!

We are only a month into the 0 solution. Don’t get lulled into senselessness. Ask yourselves why liberals would care about the guns and ammo you’re buying.

Are you ready for the House Bill titled ‘HR 45, Blair Holt Licensing and Record Act of 2009’. It will make it illegal to own a firearm unless it is registered with the database in Washington D.C. As a gun owner you will have to be finger printed, you will be required to provide your DL#, SS#, you must maintain a valid address at all times, submit to mental and physical health records being put on file, you will also be required to file any address changes and any ownership changes even if a private sale. Each update will cost $25 and if you fail to comply you will lose your right to own firearms. This bill and its language mirror almost completely one defeated last year in the House of Representatives by Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. Will we the citizenry be as lucky this time?

Congressional Research Service Summary
The following summary was written by the Congressional Research Service, a well-respected nonpartisan arm of the Library of Congress. GovTrack did not write and has no control over these summaries.
1/6/2009—Introduced. Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 - Amends the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act to prohibit a person from possessing a firearm unless that person has been issued a firearm license under this Act or a state system certified under this Act and such license has not been invalidated or revoked. Prescribes license application, issuance, and renewal requirements.
Prohibits transferring or receiving a qualifying firearm unless the recipient presents a valid firearms license, the license is verified, and the dealer records a tracking authorization number. Prescribes firearms transfer reporting and record keeping requirements. Directs the Attorney General to establish and maintain a federal record of sale system

I have purchased several new pistols and scrounged for boxes of ammo since the first. In all the stores I go to it is the same story. Compact pistols and AR type rifles are gone along with the needed ammo. If you need a shotgun or more typical rifle they are readily available.

That our citizens felt the need to purchase guns and ammunition upon the election of Barak Obama is not hysterical but quite reasonable. Our citizens know that a representative democracies such as we have enjoyed does not function properly without a free press that does its job.

Our citizens have watched the media and watched the sun sentinel in particular and concluded that they simply cannot trust you to do your job and that means they have rationally lost a measure of confidence that their society will continue to provide them with democracy and security.

Since you have destroyed confidence in the institutions which provide democracy and security by your utter bias in your "slobbering" coverage of Barak Obama, rational citizens conclude that neither will you fulfill your function in our society of maintaining scrutiny over this government. That raises the specter of a government out of control, of a totalitarian state. Whether the prospect is real or not is difficult to measure because, by your abdication of your responsibility to tell the truth about Obama, you have created the quite rational perception that our citizens must look to themselves and to their arms for their security.

Dear editor of the Sun Sentinel: it is not our citizens who are hysterical but you who have been derelict.
