Alan Keyes, a 2008 presidential candidate who is also a plaintiff in one of the many lawsuits challenging Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility to occupy the Oval Office, charged at a pro-life rally that unless Obama's social and economic policies are stopped, the United States as we know it is over.

Keyes' comments were part of an interview with a reporter from KHAS-TV at a fundraiser for the AAA Crisis Pregnancy Center in Hastings, Neb.

"Obama is a radical communist, and I think it is becoming clear. That is what I told people in Illinois and now everybody realizes it's true," said Keyes, who ran unsuccessfully against Obama for the state's open Senate seat in 2004. "He is going to destroy this country, and we are either going to stop him or the United States of America is going to cease to exist."

Keyes also reasserted his belief that unless the question of Obama's eligibility to serve as president is answered definitively, America may face the startling crisis of an executive branch run by a "usurper."

"Is he president of the United States?" Keyes asked the reporter of Obama. "According to the Constitution, in order to be eligible for president you have to be a natural born citizen. He has refused to provide proof.”

"I'm not sure he's even president of the United States," Keyes continued, "neither are many of our military people now who are now going to court to ask the question, 'Do we have to obey a man who is not qualified under the constitution?' We are in the midst of the greatest crisis this nation has ever seen, and if we don't stop laughing about it and deal with it, we're going to find ourselves in the midst of chaos, confusion and civil war."

Keyes, who stated he refuses even to refer to Obama as president, labeled the man in the Oval Office as "somebody who is kind of an alleged usurper, who is alleged to be someone who is occupying that office without constitutional warrant to do so."

Keyes' comments included harsh criticism of Obama's policies on immigration, abortion, and the mortgage crisis.

He concluded the interview by railing against the president's push for hundreds of billions of dollars in government economic stimulus spending.

"We are claiming that a bankrupt government can save a bankrupt banking system", Keyes said.

But that can only hold up to a point. I am sure that if the government edicted that your wife and children, or, in short, your loved ones, should be taken out and shot because of their support for you in constitutional thought and speech, that you might at that moment have a different view point.

Our founders understood that and those participating in the revolt only represented about 1/3 of the people at the time...another 1/3 were torries in favor of the King, and the other 1/3 wanted to pretty much be left alone. It is good that the 1/3 had the strength of conviction that they had.

Bottom line, certainly we work within the political process. But if the political process becomes tyranny and life and liberty are threatrend by tyrants, then we use the other measn the founders also left in the constitution.

I pray it never comes to that...but I am grateful they understood human nature so well as to provide for it in the unlikely event it is ever required...and that that very point is clear fo anyone who might otherwise think about usurping those liberties.

Well, Reagan was reelected in 1984, and that was not yet 30 years ago.

I believe Bush was elected with a republican majority in both the HOuse and Senate to accomplish conservative action...but they blew it and the RINOs and soft skinned pols did not rise to the challenge. They played kissy-face and make nice with their avowed political enemies which gave the current cretins their opportunity.

I believe we can turn it around again, and will work hard for that eventuality starting now for the mid-term elections of in 2010...either with the GOP if they will step up to the plate, or without if they do not.

Maybe so, but he got railroaded by Obama’s machine. He’s personally seen them in action as we are now.

What would conspiracy to do that in order to impose a form of government contrary to that of the Constitution of the United States be? If, say, any other Kenyan or Indonesian national pretended to be a citizen running for president?

And what is his solution to our current set of problems?

To do just about the exact opposite of what Obama is doing.

I believe Bush was elected with a republican majority in both the HOuse and Senate to accomplish conservative action.

There has not been a Conservative administration since Reagan. There has not been a Conservative in control of the RNC at all. We no longer have the time for a prolonged fight for a party from a minority position within the party.

As long as the moderates control the RNC the money will go to RINOs. As long as the primary process starts in RINO country, RINOS are what you will get, and there will be no move to change that scenario.

It is far better to support something new and unblemished with 2 years to gain momentum.

I would propose getting to work on that one, right away.

We have been trying for years. And that was when the republicans controlled the State Assembly and State Senate. Passed twice in two separate sessions but vetoed by the dem Gov.

Now the dems control the Assembly, Senate and Gov here in WI. 49 people associated with ACORN referred to DA for charges in Milwaukee alone. No charges ever filed. Big surprise considering city is run by dems. BOHICA

Well, couldn’t it be like the issue that Obama has about providing specific documentation in regards to the Constitutional qualifications for Office of the President of the United States — in that you can either have a solution done nationally, or, you can do it state by state.

Now, I would prefer that Voter ID to be done across the board, but if not, then do it state by state.

For example, in Oklahoma, there is a bill going through that requires all candidates to prove they are qualified for office by providing a birth certificate, and that includes the Office of President of the United States. That would be good to do nationally, but we can also do it state by state, too and achieve the goal.

So, what if this Voter ID is done state by state, too...

"49 people associated with ACORN referred to DA for charges"

Should have explained the each of these were referred with evidence of hundreds of fraudulent voter registrations with totals for all reaching into the thousands, just for Milwaukee. None of those registrations were ever removed from the rolls. The state election board (controlled by dems) even instructed the County Clerks to NOT Check the validity of registrations.

As a followup, I also meant to say that although I realize that it might not work for all states, if it does in some, then it will eventually progress through to the others, over time...

Whatever faults Dr. Keyes may have has a politician (and every politician of every stripe has faults) are orders of magnitude outweighed by his profoundly eloquent understanding of the philosophical and moral roots of American constitutional liberty. When I listen to Keyes I hear the brilliance of the founders updated for an era in which moral relativism, political corruption, situational ethics, cultural marxism and corruptive globalism all to often rears it’s ugly head and predominates.

Alan Keyes’s opposition to to these destrutive influences are uncompromising. His ability to precisely define why these vices are so corrosive of our constitutional claims to liberty and self governence is what so unnerves his opposition, particularly those who can only be seen to have tenuous claims to be on the same side of the issues as Keyes is. I am referring to those who would create common ground and accomodate the depraved forces who seek to undermine, disrupt and destroy the foundational principles and very best parts of American liberty and Western Civillization.

I worked periphally for Alan Keye’s senatorial campaign as a surrogate speaker in opposition to the hideous prospect of a US senator called Barack Obama. It is one of the things in my life that I am most proud that I had an opportunity to do, and that I was even considered worthy to be good enough too do. What was done to Alan Keyes by the leadership of the Illinois Republican party was an absolute disgrace that I hope will be revealed by the future historical record, and whose record of perfidy toward conservative candidates is disclosed by it’s present pitiful state.

God bless Alan Keyes for his courage and willingness to seek the truth as it can best be discerned.

Ah...but FDR did not fail...he was elected four times...then we had Truman who was also elected...this is not failure. It was 20 years before the country elected the GOP again as president.

I believe there is no common ground with the brain dead who voted for looks. I just wish we could get a divorce from them and that they would leave us alone somewhere.

Well said.

Those of course are you opinions and you are not only welcome to them, but I can understand them to a large degree.

However, despite the fact that true conservatives were not elected by and large (because some most certainly were), those who were elected, IMHO, were sent to Washington to get conservative things done and they balked...and it cost them, and America dearly.

I will wait and see who and what steps to the plate, from whatever quarter before making my final decision.

We shall see...I still believe it can be turned around starting in 2010. These people are arrogant and full of themselves. They forget that there is still a God in Heaven who watches over the affairs of man. It is be His leave that they govern and He may well hear our pleas and respect our efforts.

And I will make the effort, as small in the grand scheme of things as it may seem...God in Heaven works through small means sometimes to accomplish great things, and perhaps one of our millions of effots will be smiled upon in such a fashion...or maybe, with the over reach that Obama is doing, the American people will turn him and his cohorts out themselves.

We can help educate them towards that end as well.

Certainly and obviously Obama is a radical socialist. At this point, I don't agree he's a radical communist.

He will destroy the economy and the country. His stimulus plan is nothing more than redistribution of wealth. Those are the arguments that are both truthful and well resonate with the American people and are the ones I will continue to employ in my conversations with my fellow Americans.
