Schwarzenegger defends tax rise, says GOP should work with Obama

By Rob Hotakainen

Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009.

WASHINGTON - Likening California's budget troubles to an earthquake, Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Sunday defended his decision to raise taxes and said his party's leaders in Washington should be "team players" with President Barack Obama.

And if that means violating the GOP's principles, he said, so be it.

"They should make an effort to work together and to find what is best for the people, because by derailing everything, it's not going to help anybody, and it creates instability and insecurity," Schwarzenegger said in an appearance on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos."

Schwarzenegger also said he would "absolutely" return to the silver screen - at least for a cameo role in a movie produced by his buddy Sylvester Stallone.

"I enjoy him," Schwarzenegger said. "He's a terrific director and writer and a great actor. And we hang out a lot of times together. ... Sly asked me if I would do a cameo. I said, 'Of course I'll help you and do a cameo.' There's no two ways about that."

Reminded of his 2003 vow to not raise taxes, the governor said "I hate tax increases" but that he made it clear he would never sign a pledge not to raise them.

Right on Arnold, GOP should work with Obama like Obama and his Senate colleagues used to work with Bush

Wow, I’m so enthused by THAT idea. Republicans should work with Obama to stab the people in the back. Just like Arnold did with the Democrats in Kaleefornia.

How about 2.2 million on welfare in LA...how many of those people are directly or indirectly a result of illegal immigration?

How about schools?

How about jails?

How about hospitals?

I just read the rest of the article. After doing so I wish to revise and amend my earlier remarks - To wit, Arnold is a Effing A$$hole!

He said ‘The governor . . . . said the national GOP must “listen to the people”’

Um, I think it is the other way around. As well, his delicate parsing on raising taxes wherein he says he will “never sign a pledge not to raise taxes” despite his spoken vows not to do so reveals him to be a charlatan whose word is worth nothing. The ‘Emergency’ he refers to is one of his and his Dem buddies making.

I am beyond PO’d at this guy.

Well, we might as well disband the Republican Party right now, become Democrats and beg Obama to turn America into a Marxist paradise.

That’s basically what the RINO governor is telling us. He’s useless and needs to be recalled and kicked out on his rear end.

He is an actor. He acted his way into office. He was playing a role. Please note the close association between actors and the current crop of politicians. The successful “pols” are good actors!!!! Chest tones of deep conviction. Most of them are players and the public demands good actors.

"Just like Arnold did with the Democrats in Kaleefornia".

Without the cover (support) of the the Governor, the 3 Assembly and 3 Senate GOP turncoats would not have occurred.
