Obama Widens Missile Strikes Inside Pakistan

By MARK MAZZETTI and DAVID E. SANGER

February 20, 2009

WASHINGTON — With two missile strikes over the past week, the Obama administration has expanded the covert war run by the Central Intelligence Agency inside Pakistan, attacking a militant network seeking to topple the Pakistani government.

The missile strikes on training camps run by Baitullah Mehsud represent a broadening of the American campaign inside Pakistan, which has been largely carried out by drone aircraft.

Under President Bush, the United States frequently attacked militants from Al Qaeda and the Taliban involved in cross-border attacks into Afghanistan, but had stopped short of raids aimed at Mr. Mehsud and his followers, who have played less of a direct role in attacks on American troops.

The strikes are another sign that President Obama is continuing, and in some cases extending, Bush administration policy in using American spy agencies against terrorism suspects in Pakistan, as he had promised to do during his presidential campaign.

At the same time, Mr. Obama has begun to scale back some of the Bush policies on the detention and interrogation of terrorism suspects, which he has criticized as counterproductive

Nothing wrong with this. It is IMO a pathetic ploy to make us think he is tough.
While they are raining missles all over the mountains of Pakistan, the Iranians will be finish up their nuke with no resistance from this White House.

Shouldn’t Obama be impeached and turned over to the Hague for a war crimes trial?

Not so much covert anymore. Anyways, where is the footage of toppled buildings and the poor pakistani people pulling children out. Oh, I forgot, with the commie in the office there will be a media blackout for made-up civilian casualties.

Bush’s fault!!!! Rove’s fault? Cheney? Rumsfeld? Blackwater? Oh, that’s right.....they are not in office now.

Send Obama to prison for these war crimes. Gitmo has a few empty beds.

Why are we being so negative.

I view this as a positive development. He is taking the fighting to the enemy.

I don’t agree with him on much, but Bush was too timid in Pakistan. The way to support the civilian government in Pakistan, which at least gives lip service to supporting the US, is to strike at their enemies who also happen to be our enemies.

fill the skies of the Pak border with Predators .
This is the way to go . Our enemies should not be able
to peek out of a cave without getting a Hellfire shoved up their snoot.

It’s hard to cheer on someone who has crippled our intelligence gathering, I have no idea if he has stepped up anything at all over what Bush would have done.
Sounds like Predator ops are same as before, no real change. This story hasn’t convinced me otherwise.

I am pretty sure Obama is shotgunning for Bin Laden. He wants to say he did what Bush couldn’t I am sure. But crippling intelligence means he has to shotgun more for him now.

If you are posting about our intelligence gathering, you have no real knowledge of it. Them what talks don't know, them what knows don't talk.

Now, I don't believe for a second that he has strengthened it, but I don't really know. I see an article like this one and they publicly say "more strikes". I say "good".
