On Saturday January 17, 2009, during the Fox 4 0′clock news hour, Shepard Smith recalled the anniversary of President Eisenhowers famous 1961 farewell address to the nation, but he only mentioned one of Ikes threat warnings, the one that reminded us to beware of the "Military Industrial Complex." This warning came from a military man, so its been a turn of phrase that slobbers off the lips of suspicious lefty infants shortly after theyre forced to abandon the nipple and accept Marx.

This is a general interest list. We cover everything from the sublime to the ridiculous.

GRRR.. I am so tired of Ike being misquoted. In the full context, he didn’t say ‘Beware of the Military Industrial Complex’, he discussed how the Military Industrial Complex was a natural progression in manufacturing due to the state of wars BUT he said not to fear it, just make cautious they don’t have undue influence.
The prospect of domination of the nations scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present - and is gravely to be regarded.
The original version had “Military-Industrial-Congressional complex”, but Ike thought that was a bit to partisan and so shortened it.
Too bad. It would have made more sense that way.

Don't mince words, Dwight... tell us what you really think!
I like Dwight’s work, but boy has he been busy! One of those actors that works at a career instead of being a “celebrity.”
Sorta like another favorite of mine, Walter Brennan.
Wow. Great rant!
"Have you seen how fast Obama has placed environmental academic hysterics and socialists in positions of real power? Steven Chu, John Holdren, Carol Browner and others are there to see to it that every exhaust in your life is a financial event favorable to the government."
No wonder the market is tanking. There are so many reasons and the messiah just keeps coming up with more.
Lieutenant Barclay? Is that you, Reg?
Incredible piece. I didn't know that about Eisenhower's "military-industrial complex" speech - most likely because it was controlled as Schultz suggested.
It's his first editorial rant?!!!?
I'm a fan for life. That's the difference between a celebrity Lefty like Paul Newman*, and a thinking conservative actor like Dwight Schultz. The first is a mere veneer, whereas Schultz's intelligence goes clear to the bone.
*Apparently, Newman the cryptoCommie and Schultz got into regularly on the set of Fat Man and Little Boy, or so it indicates on Wikipedia.
You have to check out Dwight Schultz's column @ Big Hollywood.
It's an entry on Ike's Second Warning (the first being the celebrated "Military-Industrial Complex").
Apparently, Eisenhower also warned about "the scientific-technological elite" and "the prospect of domination of the nations scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present.."
First I've heard of it!
But, let me not hold you here. On to actor (Star Trek, Fat Man and Little Boy, The A-Team, Broadway, etc., etc.) Dwight Schultz's delightful confection:
Ikes Not So Famous Second Warning
Deb: Looks like you've got some reinforcements in La-La Land.
Ikes second warning: that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite. Does anything come immediately to mind when you read that? Ike goes on, Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. And, The prospect of domination of the nations scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present - and is gravely to be regarded.
Eisenhower was one of the most underestimated presidents in the last century.
Give us that “military industrial complex” back! It would be better than the anti-industrial complex that we’re seeing!
And as for “public policy” becoming “the captive of a scientific-technological elite,” look up some information about the “Californian Ideology” and early Libertarian thought (which is only said to have been changed). ...”free trade,” open borders, “one world,” “nation of contracts” (lawyer interests) and all of that.
Then consider what both political parties have been doing.
