KINGMAN - Arizona Sen. John McCain stopped in Kingman Thursday to visit with the Mohave County supervisors.
McCain fielded questions from the three supervisors and Sheriff Tom Sheahan, then answered questions from about a dozen people. The Republican senator assured the crowd in the auditorium at the administration building that the country will recover from the current economic crisis.
McCain also said the Republicans proposed a stimulus bill of about $420 billion, mostly money for jobs creation. Congress passed and President Barrack Obama signed into law a larger, $787 billion stimulus bill.

Progress is being made with the fence along the border with it being about 80 percent complete, but the fence also needs to be manned, the senator said. McCain added that corruption and violence in Mexico with the drug cartels is spilling across the border. More needs to be done with drug education, prevention and drug rehabilitation, he added.
The senator also supported a temporary work program such as in agriculture.
On home prices:
“It's a careful balance to keep people in their homes without helping out the speculators,” McCain said. “We need to stabilize home values.”
McCain said Obama's proposal to help the housing crisis, as “heading in the right direction.” He also said, however, that he is worried about the debt future generations would face with the stimulus package and other bailouts.
On bipartisanship:
The Arizona Republican said he has a long record of bipartisan support working with Democrats on energy, immigration and health care, and spoke of the need to rein in the cost of military overruns. He also spoke of congressmen who have been convicted of felonies or forced to leave office because of scandals.
“We need to work with Democrats to reform trust in Congress,” McCain said. “It's easy to blame the Democrats and the president. We need to work across the aisle.”

Notice that Mr. McCain is speaking to a county commission and a sheriff about what would seem to be federal issues. Of course we know that these things affect state and local governments.
For a long time, I have been writing the same letters all the up and down the chain. Every letter I write to Washington is copied also to my governor, my state representative and senator, my county commission and my sheriff.
I suggest that all of us that write to Washington also make sure that our state and local governments are aware of our positions as well.
Federal senators often speak to these people. We can potentially apply pressure from the local and state level upward.
We all knew McLame was voting for Hussein the minute he said we had nothing to fear from him.
McCain is long past his “BEST IF USED BY” date...
