I am not Catholic, and don’t know squat about their rules. However it seems to me that Obama has more control over Catholic voters than the Pope does. Obama is for abortion anytime, anywhere, on demand. The Pope of course is against this. Yet Catholics by majority voted Obama. What am I not getting here?

I am usually not a gambling person, but I would bet that both Abp Niederauer and Pope Benedict told her that as long as she fails to repent of her support of abortion, she is not in communion with the Catholic Church. That is Abp Raymond Burke's position, and he's the guy B16 appointed to head the Apostolic Signatura in Rome, the Catholic equivalent of the Supreme Court.

So I would further bet that if she attempts to receive Communion, she will be turned away. Is somebody going to follow her into church and report on what happens next?

For an institution with a reputation for being rigid, authoritarian, etc. etc., one can only be perplexed by the seemingly-infinite patience exhibited by the higher clergy in the case of Pelosi and others similarly situated. But this patience has already crossed over into corrupt toleration, and it will come to an end. It has to.

One of the American bishops (Burke, I think) rightly censured his fellow bishops and the Catholic News Service for confusing Catholics by intimating that there were other social justice issues which carried as great a weight as abortion. Since I know a fair number of Catholics who did not consider the Iraq war to meet just war principles, Obama's anti-war stance may have played a part. As well, there are many Catholics who share the Democrat vision of social welfare. To balance that 52% out, there were almost as many Catholics like myself who consider abortion to be the ultimate social injustice, and voted accordingly.

For 40 years (since the Second Vatican Council), the church has been teaching Catholics moral relativism -- all religions are good; you can do just about anything you want; don't worry about sin, just be happy; etc.

Now, two generations have been raised on this claptrap -- and yet, people can't figure out why the churches are empty or why these nominal Catholics no longer pay heed to Church teachings.

"Jews" voted en masse for Obama, too, despite his anti-Israel, pro-Palestinean leanings. For too many, their "religion" is culturally, not faith-based. For many, Confirmation or Bar/Bat Mitzvah has no more religious meaning than a Sweet 16 party or prom.

I trust that the Holy Father BXVI-slapped Nancy in a firm, but loving, way. Kudos to him for no photos. They would only have reinforced Nancy in her unrepentent public error.

Pray that she has a private, then public, conversion.

Same thing struck me as very, very curious.

Where’s the disconnect between Catholics and their Pope?
