Massachusetts Miracle?
Human Events ^ | 2/18/09 | D. R. Tucker

If Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is serious about restoring the GOP’s power in the Northeast, he should keep his eye on developments in Massachusetts, where beleaguered Governor—and Barack’s best buddy—Deval Patrick could face a strong Republican challenger next year.

Bay State Republicans—short on numbers, long on hope—felt their spirits rise this week after Harvard Pilgrim Health Care CEO Charles Baker announced that he was considering a gubernatorial run. Baker, who served admirably in the administrations of former Republican Governors William Weld and Paul Cellucci, told the Boston Herald that a run would be an “uphill climb”; however, considering Patrick’s weaknesses, such an effort might not be as hard as it would appear.

In a recent interview with Boston political reporter Jon Keller, Baker stated that Patrick deserved an “incomplete” grade for his handling of state government, a rather charitable assessment. “I think you’d have to give it an incomplete, because when Gov. Patrick ran and was elected, we were in one environment, economically and sort of politically, and now we’re in a completely different one,” stated Baker, leaving unstated the fact that the “different” environment Massachusetts is in now is far, far worse than it was when Patrick became Governor.

Patrick promoted himself as a man who would change the way things worked in Massachusetts. Things have certainly changed in the state: taxes are escalating, jobs are disappearing, and corruption is growing. Morale is low in Massachusetts: those who voted for Patrick because he promised hope are now feeling betrayed, abandoned, played for dopes.

Patrick is a disaster. Yes, anyone would be better. But a CEO of a Health Insurance firm? Gee, I wonder how he feels about RomneyCare?

Played for dopes? They *are* dopes.

For those of you who are unaware, Deval Patrick’s nickname is Couple Deval because one of the first things he did when he became governor was to trade in the old Lincoln for a Cadillac Escalade. Then he redecorated his office and hired an expensive assistant for his lawyer wife.

All those super liberals in Brookline and Newton were so proud of themselves that they had elected a black governor.

Baker is a smart guy - hands down much better than Patrick.

RomneyCARE is so bad that the Mittster put his home up
for sale. Will probably downsize to a condo as a mail drop.

Well, William Weld and Paul Cellucci were both screaming RINOs, far to the left of most of the country. It sounds like this guy would be more of the same. Better than Deval Patrick, maybe, but that’s not saying much.

This is Brookline. Not sure if the citizen is on its way to get a marriage license or vote.

The only kind of governor the people of Mass will ever have will be a liberal, whether that liberal has an “R” or a “D” behind his/her name, what earthly difference would it make.

The reason for that is really quite simple, the majority of voters in that state are brain dead liberals. I’m not just knocking Mass either, I live in Illinois and I know how it is.

Sorry, but electing a GOP Governor in MA would be pointless, even if it were possible. There aren’t enough Republicans in the legislature to aid a Governor in enacting an agenda. A 90% Democrat legislature can stop anything they do... dead. The immediate mission in MA is to rebuild the legislative numbers to 25% up to where a veto can be sustained, and then we can get a GOP Governor elected, but not before.

the picture is not photoshopped.

if ben franklin had his way, that bird would have been
taken the place of the bald eagle(Haliaeetus leucocephalus).

my apology for the bad caption which was from the original.

Actually I may have seen that turkey. If not that turkey, another one. I was driving across the Salt & Pepper Bridge one afternoon (from Mass General Hospital to Kendall Sq., Cambridge) and there was a turkey walking down the sidewalk in Kendall Square. The odd thing about it was nobody was paying any attention to it, people were just walking by him.

I think it is a male turkey. He must have escaped from the poultry slaughterhouse over on Cambridge Street. He’s been there a couple of years.

Someone I know used to work near there in a building that had reflective glass on the outside. The turkey used to prance up and down looking at himself in the reflection of the glass.

Only RINOs are elected in Massachusetts. We need Bob Parks to run for Governor, simply to get the FReeper conservative message out.

Taxachusetts will only elect a Republican Governor (albeit a RINO) after the Boston Globe goes out of business and the local liberal TV anchors are drawn and quartered. Also do not forget that Taxachusetts still has the Banking Queen in DC.

Now what conservative cares 1 iota about that state or the NE corridor. Let Canada have them.

Bob Parks has run for State Rep twice. The first time he failed to get on the ballot. The second time he raised less than $1,000 and managed to get 20% of the vote. No Thanks.

I'd say that's about right. Remember, MA is a state where the vast majority still worships Kennedy, Kerry, Barney Frank, et. al. People there are going to have to hurt a lot more before they change their voting habits.
