The UN and the World Bank are lobbying for a portion of the billions of dollars allocated to bailing out the West's banking systems to be diverted to prevent 400 million people sinking into poverty across Asia in the wake of the global economic crisis. UN officials say that such a plan is necessary to prevent severe social unrest in poor countries, especially among the tens of millions of migrant workers who are being forced back to their villages as jobs dry up in the cities of Asia.

The model being held up as a possible template by UN officials is that used to tackle Turkey's banking collapse in 2000.
Dear UN:
Go Pound sand
Dear UN,
Sorry, but we’re broke.
No! By the way - we’re selling your building in New York.
>>Dear UN:
Go Pound sand<<
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could be confident that would be our government’s response? Sadly, I have no such confidence.
Massive redistribution, waste, fraud, and abuse of developed nations income/wealth.
The beginning of the end.
The UN want’s part of the 2009 Stimulus Package!!!
LOL!!!
But of course.
“A similar scheme...”
You’ve got that right.
There’s been too much scheming against the hard working
tax-payers of this county for a long time.
Hell, what would they do if we all just quit work...
it’d be hard on us, but it sure would pucker up the
butt holes of the pocket book parasites of the world
now wouldn’t it.
Well past time to get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US.
The people of the US are sick and tired of bailing out the world only to have it thrown back in our faces. We have had enough of the globalism and de-nationalization of our principles.
We have our own travails, right now...namely an unqualified president leading us on the path to socialism by way of fear mongering and political gamesmanship.
So, to the UN...Nah! Do it yourself...
Maybe some “severe social unrest” is needed in these countries?
If they ossified social and political structures supported by the World Bank has not resulted in widespread happiness in poor countries, despite giving it 50 years or so, why must they continue follow these models?
Maybe it is time to let the people in these nations find their own solutions.
I don’t see it is our problem either way.
All kidding aside, that really is a good idea! That would help NYC.
Didn’t O have a bill proposing to give the UN $924 billion dollars to help the poor in other countries?
Must read ping!
See (then) Sen. Obama’s “Global Poverty Act.”
Although it did not come up for debate in the last Congress, I have no doubt whatever that it will re-emrge soon.

PING!
S. 2433:
110th CongressThis is a bill in the U.S. Congress originating in the Senate (”S.”). A bill must be passed by both the Senate and House and then be signed by the President before it becomes law.
Bill numbers restart from 1 every two years. Each two-year cycle is called a session of Congress. This bill was created in the 110th Congress, in 2007-2008.
The titles of bills are written by the bill’s sponsor and are a part of the legislation itself. GovTrack does not editorialize bill summaries.
2007-2008 Global Poverty Act of 2007
A bill to require the President to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day.
And what has this to do with America's Constitutional obligations??
