An international group of judges and lawyers is warning that systemic torture and other abuses in the global "war on terror" have "undermined cherished values" of civil rights in the United States, Britain and other nations.
"We have been shocked by the damage done over the past seven years by excessive or abusive counterterrorism measures in a wide range of countries around the world," said Arthur Chaskalson, a member of the International Commission of Jurists, in a statement announcing results of a three-year study of counterterrorism measures since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Although the jurists' report covers practices in about 40 countries, it pays special attention to practices in the United States, and it outlines a broad repudiation of anti-terrorism policies of the administration of President George W. Bush
"Whilst the outgoing US administration was understandably aggrieved at the horrendous attacks of 9/11, it is possible to see, especially with hindsight, that many of its responses to the terrible tragedy were ill-advised," the report states.
The report said that Bush's decision to equate acts of terror with acts of war was "legally and conceptually flawed" and had done "immense damage" to the standing of international law.

Stopped reading right there.
The world has BDS too.
Should read: “A group of leftist, America-hating Judges....”
Dunking a head in water is NOT torture.
How many lives this saved will never be known but a lot more than these judges can count.
I wish I had too, but the name "International Commission of Jurists" had me wondering if the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, or the band "Insane Clown Posse" had changed their name.
Judges and lawyers. No way! Those people are FOS and wouldn't know the truth if it was biting them on the ass.
That’s funny, because my family is proud and comforted by the fact that we have brave men willing to do the ugly, but essential work that will eventually defeat the Satanic Islamists.
No, it is actually a sign of the maturity and wisdom of our civilization that we recognize the need to engage in these tactics when battling these utterly insane savages.
Let one of these right honourable horses’ asses get beheaded and the rest of them will be whining for protection.
Someone please tell me what torture? The art classes, clean clothes and lines, showers, flushing toilets, books, movies, tv, prayer rugs, korans, soccer AC, heat, medical and dental care ..... unless you include Red Hot Chili Peppers as torture.
Agreed.
So - these guys have turned on the US and UK because they have wrapped up their UN funded studies of teeney tiny justice systems problems affecting the cherished values of our biggest critics - Russia Syria Iran China and North Korea?
And, Pray tell!
How have the practices of the Muslims effected THEIR “values”....
And we should give so much as two s**ts about the opinions of international judges, because....? They can piss off.
Vermin. All of 'em.
The reason is that in their statement they did not mention the standard practices of the "other side" ~ beheadings, murdering civilians, hiding behind civilians in firefights, and so on that outrage all right minded people.
Proves this particular bunch of judges are AlQaida agents who deserve death.
