Since Obama is planning to increase the deficits that Bush made, he tacitly approved of Bush's deficits and thus they become Obama's deficits.

All deficits are Republican deficits. [/s]

He left the Stimulus in the hand of the States. If they fail, he can blame them.
In the end, we have tax and spend Dems, and deficit and spend Republicans.

I'm all for dooming the Dems in 2010. The problem I have is what are they replaced with - More of the same Reps many of us have grown so accustomed to loathing.
We seem to be stuck between (Almost) equally unattractive alternatives - The classic condition of frustration.

My new Democrat Congresscritter very stupidly allowed the House leadership to send all the really good projects elsewhere.
Don't think we won't hang him on that pole!

I don’t think deficits decide elections.
I think the economy will recover in the next four years no matter what, and Obama will get the credit.

I suspect history will repeat itself and it will look like 1934 where Republicans were painted as obstructionists. With the media, the economy, the Bush years fresh in people’s minds, etc. the stars are all aligned against the GOP.
Recall in 1934 the Republicans lost 14 more house seats and were at a 322-103 minority and in the Senate, the GOP lost 9 more Senate seats and this after the thumping of 1932. In 1932 we had the same thing, big Dem takeover, stimulus and big spending that didn’t help or even made things worse by 1934 and the people still kept voting Dem.
I think that is as close to a laboratory experiment as we will get to confirm this dire hypothesis. Human nature simply hasn’t changed since the 1930s and the GOP has to fight an even more sinister and ubiquitous media machine today.

So how can conservatives take over this media machine? The dishonesty of the media was obvious by September of 2004, if not earlier.

Including the ones in California.
I am from California and everyone in the state knows that the Dems caused the deficit.

Obama is on TV nearly every day. His face is everywhere. With shorter attention spans, most folks, especially younger voters, will reply, "Bush who?"

I highly doubt it.
In a capitalist economy, you would be right. In a socialist economy, there will be no chance for recovery.
With the interventionist government of the democrats and Obama in place, the environment for growth and business initiative won't be there. Without the incentives of low taxes and minimal government intervention, the "capitalists" or entrepreneurs will be very hesitant to start or grow any businesses.
The road to socialism is not conducive to economic growth.

Actually, I should have written “I think the economy will recover SOMEWHAT”—I am not confident there will be anything like full recovery.
I should have written that I think things will improve, and even if that happens in the most minor way, Obama will be praised to the skies.
That’s a micro prediction. The macro is where the real problems are going to get worse.

"I think that is as close to a laboratory experiment as we will get to confirm this dire hypothesis."
One problem with your thesis. The political makeups were not the same. A lot of the Democrats in the south were fiscal conservatives and some of the main ones leading the way in obstructing FDR's socialism. People like speaker of the house and later VP John Garner and Senator Carter Glass. There were many people at that time opposed to FDR's new deal and not all of them were on the Republican side.

No, the reality will catch up with BO and the RATS by the mid-terms. Nixon inherited Vietnam by November 1969. Reagan inherited Carter’s recession in July 1981. Clinton owned the economy by spring 1993. The cover-up by the MSM handmaidens won’t fly by fall 2010.
The mistake that the GOP is making is continuing to talk about billions and trillions. As Reagan said, relate the spending waste and mushrooming deficit to a number that people can grasp: $ xxx per person, per family, per newborn, etc.

The attention span and memory bank of the American people is roughly 3 to 6 weeks, at best. In November 1998, the American people could not even remember that 6 weeks earlier the President of the United States committed televised perjury and obstruction of justice.

I’m more than a bit concerned that the Oligarchy has evidently scheduled the doom of the Republic before the DimRats would feel any pain of any doom targeting them.
