Yes, Bush would be the HEAD OF THE PARTY, and of course as such he can make sure his bubba, Ken Mehlman, was thrown in as the RNC chair... It has always been this way... the President is always considered the head of their party... just as Obama is considered the head of his party... how soon we forget!? when we want to!

CIR was amnesty. Six years to build 700 miles of fence on a 1,500 mile border isn’t border control either.
I still don’t buy that the problems with the economy were some secret only the President knew. That’s the only way your complaint holds any water.
When you consider the recession of 2000, the Enron and Worldcom bankruptcies, the attacks of 9/11, the unusual number of natural disasters including Katrina, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan....the case is easily made that spending was restrained under GWB.
IIRC, through 2007, the Congress exceeded his budget request every year.
You can play semantics all you want, but whether it is now or in the near future, it is inescapable!... The total liabilities of the United States government, including future social security and medicare payments that the U.S. government is already committed to pay out, now exceed 65 TRILLION dollars, which is more than the entire GDP of the whole world.
It's far more than any President since Eisenhower did, and respectfully, CIR was not amnesty. On top of that, GWB saw it through even though he was denied CIR.

That does make a case that Bush’s spending was less than typical. Typical being ridiculous since at least the mid ‘60s. It was still socialist entitlement programs that the Fed gov has no business in.

That is hardly serious either. It was stopped and then started again when the "virtual fence" proved to be a bust. It was hardly "seen through" when 800 miles are still open. His efforts were rather meaningless when you consider how many BP agents he could have immediately put on the border under existing law but never did. His first four years, at least, had a lower apprehension rate than during Clinton's two terms.

Did Clinton do anything about the border? Would Kerry or GOre have done anything? Will Obama do anything?
You just don’t think enough was done...thats fair. But it hardly negates what was done. You realize they had to sue border towns just to get the fencing we have now done?
I always have believed that GWB used his available resources to track down Jihadists after 9/11, not chase Mexicans.
