Don't blame me, I voted for Ron Paul Part II
The New Jersey Star-Ledger ^ | February 14, 2009 | Paul Mulshine

How quickly they forget.

All these dupes of the national Republican Party, I mean.

Just a few months ago John McCain was promising a plan that would have created a budget deficit equal to or greater than the one now being created by Barack Obama.

But now that it's Obama who's in the White House, the Beltway Republicans are trying to convince us that they've seen the light and converted to fiscal conservatism.

So I should just accept and be happy with the fact that the government just keeps growing ad infinitum? Until what, we have full blown socialism? Should we just keep cutting taxes and running massive deficits?

Deficits have to be financed which means the government still sucks the same amount of money out of the economy, AND it has a future obligation to pay plus interest. Ultimately it’s either higher taxes, the printing press, or default.

I believe he would have vetoed it in a second.

You don't think it's more likely that he would have demanded that some insignificant provision be taken out of it, declare it a compromise, and then sign the bill 95 percent intact?

Look at his record as a legislator.

In a way though, we SHOULD be 1790. Especially as it relates to personal arms. Which Ron Paul supports.

There are other choices, namely not having central planning.

***Did Republicans ever have the filibuster proof majority our law demands, to change entitlement spending?***

Did they ever try? Beyond a few none of them cared in the Bush years. They offer a lot of lip service. A lot.

Exactly what the Founders would have wanted.

That’s exactly what he would have done.

Do you think “stimulus” bills actually do anything for the economy, even if they are filled with “job creation”?

Yes...GWB's tax cuts and tax credits did exactly as they were intended. So did RR's. Those were "stimulus" bills...they allowed business and individuals keep their money and create actual jobs.

In the case of porkulus, it is misnamed. It is no stimulus bill, it is strictly for paying off Obumbis supporters at the expense of the nation.

Shortsighted conservatives just helped give them this windfall.

But, I guess that's just "insane" in some peoples eyes.

Even if it would have prevented an attack just like 9-11 from happening.

Hey... he kept us safe and there is no dim alive serving in Congress or the Senate that gives one damn about you or me... only theirs. He was horrible on the border and spent like crazy but he was a piker when it comes to the leadership today... Bush was a fiscal liberal... not a marxist and he damn sure was not a muzzie like hussein!

If you will go back and check, the Republicans and GWB did cut programs.

Beyond that, the harm GWB prevented by muzzling the EPA, OSHA, and so many other government regulators was immeasurable.

They are now unleashed.

Part of that was two wars that I supported and still support... National Defense is the main reason the Fed exists and NO ONE should complain when spending on that endeavor. Most of the rest was wasted.

Stimulus implies injection IMO. A tax cut isn’t really “stimulus” in the same sense. I’d much rather have a tax cut than a spending project, but I’d much much much rather have a large spending cut with a relatively smaller tax cut to so we could have a balanced (smaller) budget with the surplus being used to pay down any maturing debt.

They also added programs. More so than they cut.

Democrats cut programs too, they just tend to be from Defense.

I can't say definitively....McCain has been one of the most unreliable conservatives ever. At least we would have had a chance and his stand against it does give an idea.

He didn't join Collins and Snowe when the Dems cosmetically changed porkulus.

And most of it was the insane increase in welfare spending and the dumb “stimulus” package of 2008. Not to mention education has become even more federalized.

Yes it is, and in fact, the only really effective and lasting "stimulus"

I would prefer spending cuts also, but it is politically impossible.
