So you are saying you want a SEIU-supported democrat instead?

I would have rather Collins, Snowe and Specter call in sick Friday rather than vote FOR Obama.

Well, according to The Hill, they are going for it bigtime this year.

Fine with me. It's probably one of the most conservative districts in the country. Whoever wins the GOP primary will win the election, so as long as whoever wins is just as conservative as Burton without the baggage, that's a-OK.

You’re forgetting something here. In the 1960s, that was regarded as a libertarian issue (”less government”), the concept of “pro-life” wouldn’t come to the fore for a few more years (essentially with Roe v Wade). Those that initially supported it on those grounds likely had no clue what would result in its wake and it is likely very doubtful he’d have signed off on it knowing the long-term consequences.

You have to look at the candidate and see the difference between someone who willfully supports something bad vs. someone who was under a misunderstanding. Look at Eisenhower supporting the ultra-leftist activist Earl Warren for Chief Justice. He regarded that as one of his biggest mistakes and had no idea Warren would go bat$hit crazy on the court. Contrast that with Gerald Ford who maintained to his death that he was PROUD of his leftist activist appointee, John Paul Stevens, who still pollutes the court at almost 90.

Rampant hyperinflation by 2012 will render every single word you said utterly moot, except for one — “Reagan”.

If Crist is the nominee, you’re already getting a Democrat. You might as well vote for the real thing rather than have their Socialist insanity cripple and harm the GOP. Let the Democrats get FULL credit for bad votes.

If Crist runs for Governor again as I suspect he will (I’d bet money he won’t run for the Senate) I see little choice but to hope he wins. We need a good redistricting map out of Florida.

Yes, but they didn’t, did they ? That’s the problem with supporting RINOs, you don’t win anything, and you lose TWICE as much (because they vote with the Democrats and simultaneously get OUR party tarred and feathered because of their support for bad legislation, giving the Democrats cover... and ammunition). We should thank heavens they’re not Governors, or it’d be even worse.

Felons vote majority democrat, this helped Obama win the state. That’s reason enough to be against it with apologies to Republican felons. Crist is a stupid fool for doing that. Maybe one of his male lovers was a crook or something.

I saw an article once that purported if all felons could vote in 1980, Republicans would not have won the US Senate.

“Same-party presidents almost always lose first mid-term seats in both houses “

Not always. 2002 GOP gained in both.

1982 GOP technically 1 gained in the Senate.

1962 dems gained in Senate, lost only 1 or 2 in the house. disastrous midterm for the GOP.

1934 dems gained in both houses.

1998 Clinton’s sixth year dems gained in the house, broke even on the Senate. Another midterm disaster.

We will gain in the house in 2010.

The Senate is no guarantee.

If it’s as bad as you say, even Reagan won’t matter. It will be more like Mugabe.

The numbers alone aren’t looking too optimistic for gains in the Senate in 2010. Lots of seats to defend, open seats due to retirements in states trending ‘Rat, etc.

Impy, where’s my analysis for the 2010 Senate races ? I did it either in November or December. Can you locate it for me ? I have an awful time locating my old posts.

Given the fact that only those three voted in favor, I submit that they are the ones outside the party.

Of all the arrogance! "Every one else is wrong, not I!!"

it will be easier to mine a higher white turnout that leans GOP than to create some new minority GOP base which will be impossible unless we become some anti white entitlement social liberal party...we have tried since the 70s

i’m convinced of that

I never said we could lose Ohio AND Virginia

your original post was about Ohio, not the cumulative effect of Ohio and Virginia too

maybe enuff Yankee libs will move south and then some Northeastern state or Michigan will be in play again to offset the damge they have done down here

not many Wisconsin or Minnesotans moving south....mostly NE, IL, OH , MI, PA and IN

There’s the key word - competence.

On the political blogs, there is debate on whether the GOP needs to be more conservative or less right wing. Such debate misses the point why 2006 and 2008 were bad years. Bush’s low approval ratings are due to perceived incompetence on Iraqi, Katrina, and lastly the economy. My county voted 55-45 for Bush in 2000 and 2004. But in 2008, my county went for the Messiah, 55-45. My neighbors, who voted for Bush, switched to the Messiah because they were angry with Iraqi and the economy. They felt it was time to try something new. This was how the Messiah won. Pro-Bush Suburbs in CO, OH, NC, FL, IN, and Va flipped to Obama.
