We wouldn’t be gaining a seat in Ohio in 2010, we’d only be HOLDING what we already have. We need to be targeting Democrat seats, but we have problems next year for the Senate, because there aren’t a lot of viable targets (and we’ve got retirees whose seats we have to defend). Even best case scenario, we couldn’t win back the Senate as we did in 1994. We’d probably have a better chance for the House, but even that is probably too formidable from a logistical standpoint.
You are mixing up cause and effect. He had a broad appeal because he was conservative, not the other way around. GEEEZ.

You forget Crist said he would do this before being elected...this had as much to do with voter purges as anything else. Millions of voters with similar names to convicted felons had their name purged from voting lists...real mess. Personally, I believe if a person has paid for his crime, why should he not vote? Crist is very popular in Florida-consider that.

True...about the Senate seat...but I have to tell you, I think it’s going to be an uphill battle to elect a GOP to Voinivich’s seat...it would help if people would support the GOP financially.
Blackwell won as a Black candidate before the False Messiah did, and UNLIKE the False Messiah, he didn’t have the media pimping his candidacy, and he also didn’t have a corrupt Sec of State aiding and abetting all Democrat fraud in the state of Ohio. McCain was trailing as it was, and he was ultimately a piss-poor candidate (yet, ironically, he was that “broad appeal” candidate you guys (and the media) claim was so attractive). RINOs don’t work.
No, some people voted for Reagan in spite of the fact he was conservative because they liked him personally. You had the same thing happen this year...GOP folks told me that they would vote for Obama...”he’s to liberal, but we like him”...not kidding.
There is another aspect to the GOP losses not discussed...competence. The GOP is seen as incompetent by many right now. Even many in the GOP did not think Pres. Bush did a good job...this has rubbed off on the Republican party.
Obama won Ohio...if you think there was enough fraud to tip the state to McCain...you are wrong. I hate this idea because it’s just more excuses for the GOP. At the end of the day we lost and we lost big. I want to win next time.
Well, I don’t know as much about Maine as I do AZ and here in AZ no one ever runs against McCain... so there would be no one to donate to....
It mattered enormously about Congress. The False Messiah was a MEMBER of that enormously unpopular Congressional majority. He should’ve been tarred and feathered and he wasn’t. There was no reason why 2008 couldn’t have resembled 1960. In 1958, Eisenhower lost a massive number of GOP seats in his 6th year. But in 1960, the GOP reclaimed seats they lost in both bodies (even as JFK “won”). If we had reclaimed the same number, the Republicans would’ve won a 1-seat majority in the Senate and a 224-211 majority in the House (so even if the False Messiah won, he’d have had a hostile Congress to stop his insanity). So indeed, it mattered enormously.
Like a bird’s instinctual mating dance, this is the first move any politician makes — and the first thing they say — before fleeing to the opposition party.

I had to think for a minute what you were talking about...I don’t mean Congress doesn’t matter only that the president’s party is blamed for economic problems...this is a historical fact. I’m not saying it’s right. Now congress has low approval ratings...though some polls say GOP=30 % and Dems =48%? Can this be true? I digress...people always hate generic Congress but mostly vote for their congress critter...non-presidential years are the best years to pick off congresspeople because no presidential race and Congress faces more scrutiny so maybe in 2010...hopefully we can elect some GOP.
Why is Specter there ? Because the Democrats haven’t run a serious, first-tier candidate against him since 1980 (1986 they thought they had one with the Communist Congressman and Castro apologist Bob Edgar, but he was a bust, since he scared a lot of Conservatives into voting for Specter. Had the Dems run SoCon Donald Bailey, State Auditor and a former Congressman, the race would’ve been far tougher for Specter). The Democrats had to FLOOD the 2004 Senate primary to prevent Toomey from finally taking down the Senator from Scotland.
I would prefer a conservative...but you bet I would vote for any RINO over a Democrat.
Reagan was a Conservative. He wasn’t a RINO liberal.
I don’t think you will be electing any GOP in PA...when Spector goes, I fear a Dem will replace him. Look at the Presidential election. It was not even close. McCain and Palin lived in PA for weeks before the election.
