Yesterday brought one of the few bright spots for our side in a while when we heard that Judd Gregg had turned down Obamas empty offer to appoint him as Commerce Secretary.
Conservatives felt a surge of satisfaction that the Senator from New Hampshire had experienced a St Paul on the road to Damascus type awakening and realized he was deserting our team at a very critical moment.
There was speculation that Gregg had second thoughts about trusting the Democrat Governor of his state actually appoint another Republican as his replacement as if that ever had a chance of happening.
The story from Gregg was that he could not see eye to eye with the President on major issue such as the so-called stimulus bill. At least we were spared the old politicians moan of wanting to spend more time with my family.
Maybe the truth is that as a Cabinet designee Senator Gregg would have problems explaining his actions as regards the huge amount of bailout money he was able to deliver to the banking industry.
This would have given his good friends from the other party a chance to roast him in the public vetting he would have been put through. This is because as of last Thursday he held $3 million in Bank America stock, as he did while he was crafting ways to use TARP to pump $ billions our tax payer dollars into the banking industrys hands.
Under Commerce Department ethics rules as its Secretary, Gregg would either have to place his holdings in a blind trust( not very wise in this climate) or sell his shares outright.
Its hard to overlook these facts and say Judd Gregg stood on principle when he declined the offer. Politicians take care of themselves first and always.

The road to Damascus is reserved for Jean Kerry and Nutsy Pelosi.
Like a RINO deserting a sinking ark.
Gregg is still a pro open borders increase H1B visa kind of guy.
New parody song potential:
Tax Cheats, Frauds and Thieves
These are the people surrounding Obama
(tune of “Gypsies, tramps and thieves”)
Time for Rahm and Axelrod to leak innuendos and gear up the smear machine against Senator Gregg .
For surely no one could resist serving the messiah for, say, patriotic and personal moral reasons
anyone who offends or embarrasses the messiah, must be punished and destroyed
Senator Gregg will find a dead fish on his desk when he returns to the Senate
I don’t give a fudge about his motives! This forces the MSN
to report the White House trying to steal the census. The
past week the only reporting of this was FR and Fox News.
I don’t see any reporting about Acorn and National Health
care anywhere in the MSN!
But whatever his motives, I'm glad he poked the Dear Leader in the eye.
...Do yer think it was to save his ass from something that would fry him later? MMM, could be...
...Yer right, I don’t trust MANY of them, only a few Statesmen...
RINO
“Coach” Collins, the speed-typist, is a real tool.
apparently a useful tool, given the doubts and derogatory comments about Senator Gregg in this thread
Yes. Those throwing rocks at my Senator sound like they have IQs smaller than their hat size.
I really don’t care why he did it. I’m just glad he did. I could almost visualize Obama whining “But I thought everyone looooovvveeedd me.”
Your Senator did a brave thing
he now has real enemies in the White House
I hope you send him a note of support
As we move forward, I expect there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the Presidents proposals. This will certainly be a goal of mine.
"I immensely respect him, and I know he's going to be a strong and effective president,"
"There are lots of issues I will carry his water on" (in the senate)
Spoken like a true liberal republican. Road to Damascus? No, the road to hell.
Get your undies in a bundle over what he SAID.
Ignore what he DID.
Brilliant.
{Show us some cartoons.}
I just did that. I know that the White House and DNC Smear Machines are cranking up now.
Gird your loins for a “Joe the Plumber” style smear job
