EAST PEORIA, ILL. -- President Obama today repeated the claim we asked about yesterday at the press briefing that Jim Owens, the CEO of Caterpillar, Inc., "said that if Congress passes our plan, this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off."
Caterpillar announced 22,000 layoffs last month.
But after the president left the event, Owens said the exact opposite.
Asked if the stimulus package would be able to stop the 22,000 layoffs or not, Owens said, "I think realistically no. The truth is we're going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again"
"It is going to take some time before that stimulus bill" means re-hiring, he said.

The Board of Directors of this CEO at Caterpillar may have made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Either go out there and tell the truth about upcoming layoffs or the CEO would be unemployment statistics!
Withholding this insider information could create problems with the SEC and trading in the stock and result in the members of the Board getting Orange Jump Suits and becoming and participate in the DATING GAME at San Quentin!!
Could this be the rationale behind the contradictory statements dealing relative to the OBAMA??

It is not hard. You must distinguish between small businessmen who are true entrepreneurs, and large corporate CEO's who are basically anti-competition, pro-big government(spending) bureaucrats.Same reason the US Chamber of Commerce has stuck its nose between Obamas legs--they smell money. Big gobs of goobermint money. Infrastructure--built on land cleared and smeared by CAT earthmovers. Competition? Private sector? Who wants it. Wasteful, and it cuts into profits. Go for the lowhanging goobermint fruit. Get it?
