Fifty-one-year-old Johnny Ray Johnson was pronounced dead at 6:19 p.m. Thursday.

A Harris County jury sent Johnson to death row for the 1995 murder of 41-year-old Leah Joette Smith.

According to court documents, her murder was one of at least five rape-slayings in Houston and Austin that were linked to the former truck and taxi driver. He also was linked at least eight other rapes beginning in the late 1970s.

Ala. man executed for stepdaughter’s rape, murder
1 hour ago

ATMORE, Ala. (AP) — Danny Joe Bradley was executed Thursday for the rape and strangulation of his 12-year-old stepdaughter, Rhonda Hardin.

The 49-year-old Bradley was given a lethal injection at 6:15 p.m. Central Time at Holman prison after spending 25 years on Alabama’s death row.

Bradley was caring for Rhonda Hardin and her 11-year-old brother on Jan. 24, 1983, in Piedmont when the girl was slain.

Bradley had no final statement. He stared at the ceiling without looking at witnesses. The prison chaplain held his left hand and knelt beside him in prayer during the procedure.

A man blamed for numerous killings and rapes ... Why is it so hard for a reporter to present facts without bias? This thug was unanimously convicted by a jury of his peers of raping and murdering a woman - is a simple, direct statement really that hard to write?

The most cost-effective, efficient way to mete out justice is for the would-be victim to administer it (whenever possible) on the criminal at the moment of the crime. Absent that, this works well.

It’s a shame it took almost 14 years to put this POS to death . . . used to be as many (or fewer) months.

1) Strap the ba$tard(s) to a wall
2) Let the family of the victim(s) have at it for a 1/2 hour or so.
3) Execute whatever’s left.

that leaves 2,000 or so to go.

There is somewhat more than 3000 people on death row in the US. California has a few hundred and they execute maybe one a year.

my figure applies to Texas death row alone both male and female as of a 2004 or so. Of course, Texas has been real busy since then haven’t they.

There are 348 on death row in Texas. They have executed 7 and added 2 new inmates so far this year. They are making a big dent in the death row population of Texas.
