A few weeks ago, a senior Greek Orthodox clergyman in Israel attended a meeting at a government office in Jerusalem's Givat Shaul quarter. When he returned to his car, an elderly man wearing a skullcap came and knocked on the window. When the clergyman let the window down, the passerby spat in his face.
The clergyman prefered not to lodge a complaint with the police and told an acquaintance that he was used to being spat at by Jews. Many Jerusalem clergy have been subjected to abuse of this kind. For the most part, they ignore it but sometimes they cannot.

Some old fracker spits on me, I’m going to return the favor with a deep, long, sinus clearing hawk right in his eye.
Disrespect is a two way street.
Haartz is a joke, known for this stuff.
Its editors love Obama and Olmert, and yet you take it as truth?
There's a big difference in degree, but the two are not entirely unrelated in kind. Regardless, both are wrong.
Its editors love Obama and Olmert, and yet you take it as truth?
I don't think this comment of yours is an honest response to the story.
I doubt it.
Are you saying Italians are notoriously anti-semitic? And there’s a media conspiracy of silence?
You’re full of it.
Haartz is a secular paper with a record of false stories against religious Jews.
But how can they throw a rock? Sounds like work to me.
You need to do google search of “jew spit on christian”
“Are you saying Italians are notoriously anti-semitic? And theres a media conspiracy of silence?”
Not at all. But I am sure, somewhere in Rome we’d find an old facists would be a prick to a Jewish person, just like (if this story is true), they found some old Haredi who don’t like what they deem interlopers.
Point being, you get a paper like Haartz with an agenda, they can write the story they want, then go find some event to shoe-horn into their approved story-line.
“Youre full of it.”
If “it” is sticking to the truth, even when unpopular, I guess I am.
Haartz has an agenda. They go out and find crap to spread that fits their agenda.
It’s an unpleasant but well-known fact that non-Jews are routinely spat upon by Jews in Jerusalem. That is not disputable by reasonable people — though perhaps you are not interested in being reasonable.
It’s in no sense comparable to your theory that in Rome or any other city there might be found isolated cranks given to rude and offensive displays of anti-semitism. The article itself quotes a named Israeli government official to the effect that during Purim some gentiles lock themselves away for fear of assault.
I defy you to make comparable allegations about Jews living in such fear anyplace (outside the Occupied Territories, I mean).
You are evidently willfully blind to certain truths. They exist all the same.
“government official to the effect that during Purim some gentiles lock themselves away for fear of assault.”
Purim is like Jewish mardi gras. All sane people lock themselves away for fear of assault.
“Occupied Territories”
Interesting phrase.
Wouldn’t throwing the rock be a work on the sabbath?
I pray for the peace of Jerusalem every day. I respect and revere the purposes of God in preserving Israel, and I look forward to the day of their redemption, when as Ezekiel describes, they once again stand as a mighty army before God (Ezekiel 37).
I will go further... I can honestly say that I would never condone nor participate in a military action against Israel. Ultimately, to fight Israel is to be at odds with the purposes of God.
BUT, Israel has LONG had a problem with knowing who to trust and who to fear. They have historically had a tendency to bite the hand that feeds them. This trend apparently continues.
Israel should understand that this won’t help them before the greater masses of the Western Public. By allowing such foolishness in their streets, they encourage their enemies in the US and Europe. They are putting themselves in a situation in which only God can save them...
Even so, Lord Jesus, come...
I don’t blame the Jews...and can handle their spit...What I couldn’t handle is they way they have been treated for the last 6000 years.
Bingo. (Although I certainly do NOT support the bad behavior reported here).
How about Athens?
You’d think these Christian-hating spitters might be a bit more worried about the fanatical Muslims than the shrinking minority of Christians in the Holy Land.
Are we allowed to object to this behavior post holocaust ?
Even if that is true it is beside the point and you know it.
