Obama Misreads His Mandate
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 02-12-09 | STEVEN F. HAYWARD

-- Reagan didn't assume his landslide was a license for whatever he wanted.

President Barack Obama's honeymoon period seems to have ended quickly. That's because Mr. Obama doesn't grasp the essentials of presidential leadership. Rather than making a compelling case for his economic policies, he has resorted to curt rebuffs, such as telling House Republican whip Eric Cantor, "I won." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the same thing the same day: "We won the election; we wrote the [stimulus] bill." This is the trope of a party that has lost its ability to make an argument.

He is so arrogant too, I am just waiting for God to slap his ass down but good, the bigger they (think) are, the harder they fall. I do beleive he thinks he is the second coming. Its all gone to his head. I am just waiting for the posters and billboards with his socialist/marxist face to be plastered all over the U.S.

The current president is a child. America is a great country, and we can survive this neophyte. But its going to require every ounce of our greatness to overcome it.

You underestimate him. He *is* a child in terms of genuine personal achievement, or knowledge of anything beyond Alinsky's methods.

But in terms of destroying America in record time, he is perfection personified. He will destroy the economy with Porkulus, the middle class with crushing taxes and endless bureaucracies, the military with goals and strategies that will make Macnamara seem like Patton, and the remaining shards of our culture with 30 million illegal new citizens.

No, he will destroy America despite us. However, when he's done, we rebuild from scratch. And the payback will run in the streets to the depth of a horse's bridle.

Obama was NEVER GIVEN A MANDATE TO CONVERT AMERICA TO SOCIALISM. NEVER. It will be his downfall, amongst other anti-American parts of his ideology.

but I question how long this can really go on, especially as dangerous nations rearm, our economic health continues to spiral down the drain and criminals are released into the streets.

Are you kidding? The MSM will sing HIS praises even if they too are marched off to the camps.

I believe one of the most effective methods to restore confidence in the banking and housing sectors of the economy would be for Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer to be indicted by a federal grand jury for gross malfeasance of office. These 3 politicians have more to do with the meltdown of the American economy than anyone else.
George Bush may have been the lookout but these 3 actually committed the robbery.

Indeed. The famous, or infamous “Imperial Presidency” began with FDR. Not only his Mussolini-light economic program but his packing of the Judiciary and his steal entry into World War II. Nothing imperial about his personal style, but his governing style was quite different.

I wish I could say you are wrong. He is America’s Castro. If, heaven forbid, the Democrats get large enough majorities he will get them to repeal the 22nd Amendment and rule as president for life.

FASCISM has arrived in America, and it’s riding a dark horse...

Liberals CALLED Bush a fascist, but the FACTS show that Democrats are now trying to shove REAL FASCISM right down our throats.

AND WE CANNOT STOP IT...

I am beginning to understand how my grandfather and his brothers felt, as they watched the rise of Hitler. And after Geitner’s remarks today about the GOVERNMENT removing CEO’s they don’t like from corporations, I am SURE that’s what we now have.

I fear for the country we are leaving to our children.

What a reasoned and intelligent article. Thanks for posting.

"The election was not a bestowal of political power, but a stewardship opportunity...."

Reagan knew and embraced this, which is why he was so good for the country. But we've lost the concept of stewardship altogether. And what we are left with is vulgar political throw-down.

I do wonder how long the MSM will cover for him.

I wonder how long before the great mass of do-nothing conservatives get off their butts and get involved.

...probably beyond my lifetime.

Why didn’t everyone else in that room turn to Obama and say, WELL, I WON TOO. What’s your point?

***Good point but I can’t see any Republican be man enough to say that. (damn)***

Actually, Bush’s economic policies were similar to Mussolini’s, too.

I think a good approach is to keep taunting him. He has little to back his ego, and has shown his lack of restraint. I would like to see him lose it.

“Obama was NEVER GIVEN A MANDATE TO CONVERT AMERICA TO SOCIALISM.”

You mischaracterize what Obama is doing, it’s not “Socialism”, but FASCISM we are being force-fed.

GOVERNMENT deciding who runs corporations is definately FASCISM, in fact, it could even be called NATIONAL SOCIALISM.

Fascism is described as an authoritarian nationalist ideology focused on solving economic, political, and social problems. Fascists aim to create a single-party state in which the government is led by a dictator who seeks unity by requiring individuals to subordinate self-interest to the collective interest of the nation.

SOUND FAMILIAR??

And if you look at the 25 points of National Socialism from the 1920 Congress, you will find that MANY of them describe EXACTLY what Obama and the Dems in Congress are leading us to today.

IE, the nationalization of Industries, the punishment of “Profiteers”, the abolishment of “Unearned Incomes” (The STATE determining who gets paid what), national healthcare under Party control, deciding who lives, and who dies medically,Etc,etc...

That’s Bullsh-—, and you should know that.

The Left CALLED Bush a fascist, but what the Dems are shoving down our throats IS fascism...

And some are beginning to realize this IS NOT the change they were hoping for. I talked to one Fanatical Obama voter today who has become incredulous. He is stunned by what the Democrats are trying to do. Obama campaigned promises said NOTHING about this.
