I write today regarding the College's decision to invite a particular speaker to our campus. This decision to invite her on behalf of the College is one that involves our whole campus and signals that we as a whole will receive her openly.
Unfortunately, I am certain she will not receive many of us so kindly. I'm speaking of Ann Coulter, and I am advising you to rescind her invitation.
The United States is a nation that prides itself on acceptance and diversity and refuses to accept any less. The same holds true for the College. We are proud of the fact that ethnically diverse students comprise more than one third of our campus population, that 60 percent of our students are females and that we have a multiplicity of students of different religions, political views, abilities and sexual orientations.
Yet, Coulter has insulted people in each of these groups. On women, she has said, "It would be a much better country if women did not vote."
On Muslims, she has said, "News magazines don't kill people, Muslims do."
On homosexuals, Coulter has said, "I thought gays just wanted to get married to one another and settle down in the suburbs so they could visit each other in the hospital."
On Judaism, Coulter has said, "We just want Jews to be perfected."
The list of her odious quotations continues, and while she may not have been talking to students at the College, she was certainly talking about them. She has insulted the majority of our students directly and the remainder of us by extension because those whom she insulted are our friends.
Coulter has insulted our intelligence, and she has denigrated the work of those who strive for tolerance and equality. Her appearance encumbers all that the College has striven for in its implementation of courses and educational events on race, religion, homosexuality, gender equality and differing abilities.
How can we reconcile our attempts to shape a new generation of students who are tolerant, accepting and aware of those who are different from us when we invite as a guest a person who refers to our students as she does?
Coulter is no more welcome here than would be any other racist or sexist or homophobe. Yet, we are welcoming her to the College and embracing her visit with one the campus' largest venues, Kendall Hall.
My question is this: What does it say to our students by inviting her here, someone who has at one point or another blatantly insulted at least half of those enrolled here? Even more fundamentally, what does it say about us?
You're kidding, right? I certainly hope so. What would you think of only those serving in the military being allowed to vote (as in Starship Troopers)? After all, they are the ones putting their lives on the line for the country. What sacrifice (or even intelligence) is needed to own property? Heck, even illegal aliens have been allowed to own property.
She really does know to rile them up.
Can you imagine the lawsuits if they ever actually caught her actually speaking/writing an untruth?

Man in driven primarily by logic and reason? Then how do you explain Clinton? What was his primary drive? It certainly wasn't above his waist.
Are you serious? Don't blame this on women. My mom worked with a doctor (male) that fell for the Obama lies. However, it didn't take long for him to see that he drank the koolaid.

I don’t know if they view it as trading freedom for security. I think some might, just as some girly-men might. But I think they are just more apt to be wired to think that government SHOULD care for people, should be compassionate (even though you’re using govt to rob from some to give to others - an act in and of itself not very caring about those they are robbing).
I think a lot of women transfer their submission from a man to the faceless government who can’t control them in the same way, and in that way feel more secure and free to live how they want. Even though they are giving a lot of control over their lives to a bureacracy that is a lot more inflexible than any one man might be.
I would certainly be in favor of anyone in the military being allowed to vote, including any veterans. The caveat is that they need to be doing it other than for getting through college, they need to serve at least 4 years. Even if they are women, I would make that exception.

OK, so where’s the “racist” remarks? None of the examples I’ve read refer to anybody’s race.
Of course these liberal colleges are the same that invite Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak w/o limitations. Of course let’s not forget “patriots” like Bill Ayers.

I figured I’d get some flack about that statement. There is lot’s of blame to spread around but I was merely making the point that scores of otherwise intelligent women voted for that dufus because of either his looks or ability to speak in a calm, reassuring way. I’ll guarantee you that most of these women still “feel” they voted the right way and it won’t matter how much the “One” does to steer our path down the road to full-blown Socialism. Because of my profession I have worked around women for many years and I can tell you that 90% of the personnel problems are catfights between these feline.
Then how do you explain Clinton?
Are you serious? This isn’t even apples to apples! Sure, Clinton deservedly got a reputation for exercising the smaller head but he was still a slick, conniving, thinking man who was aptly given the moniker “Teflon Bill.”
