Republicans have caught the Democrats in a midnight stimulus power play that seeks to cut Republican conferees out of the House-Senate negotiations to resolve a final version of the Obama stimulus package. Staff members from the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) met last night to put together the stimulus conference report.
They intend to attempt to shove this $1.3 trillion spending bill through in the dead of the night without Republican input so floor action can take place in both chambers on Thursday.
I spoke with House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) moments ago about this latest version of Democratic bipartisanship. Pence told me, I think the American people deserve to know that legislation that would comprise an amount equal to the entire discretionary budget of the United States of America is being crafted without a single House Republican in the room.
How many Senate RINOs will go along with this? Probably, just enough for the Dems to get away with it.
Reactionary conservatism is why we are here.
Hey, only 45% of the American people supported the Republican party in the last election, so why should they be represented at all?
I also think there is a whole bunch of Democrats from Red states looking for an exit.
They, at a minimum, should demand enough time to back through and read it. It's basic due diligence , wheteher they agree with it or not.
change
The ‘Rats were always successful at staging walk-outs in the House. It’s time to draw on the tactics that returned them to power. Saying “NO!” on everything, united resistance, outrageous stunts that the media can’t ignore, holding numerous pressers and naming(not calling) names loudly.
Washington, D.C. Office (202) 224-2523
"When MSNBC asked Collins how she would react to the restoration of the House spending plan, she replied, The Democrats will lose my vote.
Similar remarks by Specter prompted House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.), not known for his bellicosity, to fire back at his weekly pen-and-pad session with reporters: Im shocked that any senator of any party would say this is the bill we passed, take it or leave it.
Does this not qualify as “tyranny of the majority”?
Didn’t our founders have an opinion on this?
Tell Pence we appreciate his straightforward manner, and keeping his eye on the ball.
He did a great job on MTP the other day.
My take, the Dems are working out their own internal problems and don’t want any Reps in the room to see how this “united party” is really a bunch of egocentric fools.
Why aren’t the Republicans shouting to the rooftops about this?
Why isn’t this Conference Open and televised. The Dems are only showing their exclusion of the Republican Party. Hope it bites them in the a_ _.
Can you say,”Coup d’etat?”
Pence told me, âI think the American people deserve to know that legislation that would comprise an amount equal to the entire discretionary budget of the United States of America is being crafted without a single House Republican in the room.â
The Speaker appointed conferees: Obey, Rangel, Waxman, Lewis (CA), and Camp.
Representative Jerry Lewis (R - CA); Congressman Dave Camp (R-MI 4th)
Reps Lewis and Camp can refuse to concur in the conference report, and submit minority points of view. That wouldn't prevent the report coming out, but it would create a record that prevents the House from being "bipartisan."
++++”They have gotten ridiculously bold.
I feel so helpless. I think I know what the people in the lifeboats felt like watching the Titanic sink.++++
I know how you feel. Believe me, keep praying. I’d rather have God on my side rather than these crooks any day!!
The people will not put up with this arrogance much longer...it’s a matter of time.
Exactly.
Bad enough the RINO's are so liberal, why do they insist on being doormats as well?
It’s a coup. No other way to look at it.
Isn't the conference report supposed to be the product of a bi-partisan group of House and Senate "conferees"?
Rather than the staff for merely the partisan Speaker and Majority Leader?
Why aren't the other Democrat Senators and House members represented?
Rotating RINOS appear to be the method of operation on any sovereignty-changing decisions by these con-artists, these internal enemies. McCain, Graham, Voinovich, etc., etc.
How can so many republicans stand for NOTHING?
Thanks for posting, kristinn. Good article by Connie Hair.
“I feel so helpless. I think I know what the people in the lifeboats felt like watching the Titanic sink.”
I think I know how the 3rd class steerage felt when they knew they were going down with their ship (or in my case, my country).
