If enough people break a small and oppressive regulation, something will have to be done at the government level. Think Tea Tax and Boston Harbor. Right now the inmates are running the asylum that is America (and Canada, as referenced by Steyn). It’s time for us to revolt. If our phonecalls and pleas to representatives are falling on deaf ears, then we have to do something to make them take notice. No, not bombing a federal building in Oklahoma City. But how about the equivelent of what Mr. Steyn and Ms. Shaidle do every day? They ridicule the rules, post over-the-top and “offensive” articles, and make people laugh at the absurdity of silencing thought and opinion.

That is the first hurdle. Getting people to do it. However, I think more and more are going to be willing to do it as we head further into the abyss.

The whole idea of civil disobedience is to break laws that they can get you for and to take consequences if you have to. If enough people simply took the option of not withholding any tax at all, they could only get a few of us. If you wish to be legal, figure out the deductions that would cause you to break even at the end of the year, neither owing nor having a refund. The feds actually count on those people having refunds because they get the interest during the year before they refund it to you.

Breaking even at the end of the year, or as close as you can come to it, deprives them of income without running a risk of being jailed or fined.

Simple solution. Write it by hand or use a black ink printer. Or, have some fun, make a template that will run through your printer that holds the bill. A slot in the template will allow your message to print, but all other ink sprayed by the printer winds up on your template.

Better check the counterfitting laws. You might have a problem scanning real fed currency.

Way back in the past there was a black in our family, that makes me about 1/16 black. Can I claim protected status as a black? I think I will put that on the census report this time, because if half white/black Bozo can claim to be black, I can!

Fortunately, it is extremely difficult to enforce.

The concept of taxing it is also ludicrous on the face of it. It is actually downright offensive.

I already do this. Got my state taxes down to where I had a net due one year of 4 dollars, and the next year a net due of 2 dollars. Feds are usually about $100 give or take. It's hard to figure it exactly because of mortgage payment timing and when they calculate the interest paid on your mortgage...

I see the fed refusing to accept any money that is defaced in any way after this civil disobediance takes hold. Checkout clerks will have to inspect all bill they receive to see if it has been defaced.

That's how we would know it worked.
