Pelosi frustrated by Senate [Spector, Snowe & Collins threaten to pull out. Kill Porkulus]
Politico ^ | 02/11/2009 | By GLENN THRUSH

Nancy Pelosi had heard enough, thank you very much, after two enraged House Democrats rose at Tuesday’s caucus meeting to bitterly denounce the Senate’s take-it-or-leave-it offer on the stimulus.

It wasn’t because Pelosi wasn’t ticked off herself — quite the opposite.

“At a certain point, after a couple of members had expressed themselves, she asked that future speakers not address that issue because it was reminding her how angry she was,” said Rep. Anthony D. Weiner (D-N.Y.), who was in the room.

When Pelosi emerged from behind closed doors a few minutes later to address the press, she wore the broadest possible smile on her face. But her words expressed the grimmest possible resolve, as she girded for a conference committee battle on the stimulus destined to yield, at best, partial victory.

“Usually you go to conference and split the difference between the two houses — that may not be the case here,” Pelosi said. “At these conferences, my experience has been that the White House has a seat at the table — that they weigh in.”

Both Obama and Pelosi are hoping to restore significant stimulus spending eliminated by the Senate, especially $21 billion in school construction and technology grants, $10.3 billion in COBRA insurance and $8.6 billion in new Medicaid coverage for the unemployed.

The Senate passed its $830 billion stimulus bill Tuesday — but it wouldn’t have passed at all without the support of three moderate Republicans and a conservative Democrat who helped the Democratic majority obtain the 60 votes necessary to stop a filibuster.

Majority Leader Harry Reid’s solution has created its own set of problems for the speaker. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) all have publicly insisted that the measure emerge more or less unchanged...

On Schnitt Show yesterday, it was announced that his home office and dc offices had pulled the plug, turned off the phones and are ignoring all outside pressure. They called both offices in the middle of the night and the lines were busy... voice mail is always full and arlen is a pu$$y.

" Where is AARP? Get those people in The Villages in Florida to spread the word."

Are you serious?

Try this on for size.

And this dust-up may give conservative Democrats cover to reverse their votes.

“Where is AARP?”

The AARP is first and foremost in the business of promoting and enriching itself. Second comes cheerleading for Marxism. Third is giving bribes to liberal, America-hating traitors infesting Congress. Promoting the interests of its members is about tenth on the list.

Should anyone receive their self-serving tripe in the mail, tear it up, send it back in the pre-paid envelope and include a note telling them to go eat their shorts.

“At these conferences, my experience has been that the White House has a seat at the table — that they weigh in.”

Oh really? I do not recall her saying anything like this for the past 2 years.

“I’m shocked that any senator of any party would say this is the bill we passed, take it or leave it.”

While it is perfectly acceptable for the potus to say; "I WON! Take it or leave it" ???

These people, and I use the term loosely, are despicable!

Unfortunately, I have no representation in Washington, since my senators are Specter and Casey.

Joint the Club. Mine are Levin and Stabenow.

" I becoming more and more convinced that Obama wants this bill to fail. He'll never publicly admit it, of course, but we all know he really only cares about being re-elected. This bill will not help anything and he knows it. "

I think you need to read a bit more about socialist/communist agendas. ;)

Lets hope and pray that the three traitors are looking for a way to reverse their vote while saving their pride at the same time (their egos are so big they can't publicly admit that they are feeling pressure from their own party and their constituents.)

They should know that, unless they vote against this atrocity, they will forever be known as THE THREE STOOGES.

Obviously it would be better to approach them by saying the Dems are trying to play them for stooges and we'd hate to see them forever remembered as THE THREE STOOGES who betrayed America to a pork package for the worst supporters of Dems.

If they need an out, I say give it to them.

[Spector, Snowe & Collins threaten to pull out. Kill Porkulus]

This is a lie.

The Democrats can pass this bill just about any time they like. They just want to have a couple Republicrats on board so it can be a "bi-partisan" boondoggle.

Sorry, I know it’s early, but why would he want it to fail after pushing so hard for it?

Liz - I cannot remember a time I have ever disagreed with one word you have ever said. However...

God-Fearing Black church-goers who voted for Obama ...

There can be no such thing as a God-Fearing anything that would have voted for "it" regardless of color or church attendance.

Unfortunately, I have no representation in Washington, since my senators are Specter and Casey.

Specter has been looking pretty ragged lately. Keep up the pressure and he might pop...

One third of the Senate is up for re-election next year. If enough pressure is brought to bear on the right people it seems like it might be possible to "urge" a few Dims to vote against this bill. It might take more than phone calls, though. My Senators are Lamar! Alexander and "Builder" Bob Corker. I'm certainly no fan of either for a variety of reasons, but at least they knew better than to vote for this boondoggle.

Keep the pressure on! Good luck!

It pleases me that Frou Pelosi is worried

She needs to be careful that she doesn't develop worry lines all over her face from this. /sarcasm>

SNL actually did a funny mock press conference by her and Reid where she keeps going into fits about the lack of Republican support and Reid has to keep calming her down. Rather funny.

It has long since been anatomically impossible for Nancy Pelosi to develop worry lines.

I've read plenty and have no doubt that is his ultimate goal. I'm strictly talking strategy here. Nancy, not unlike Bill and Hillary with health care, came out demanding too much, too soon. Obama needs/wants at least 8 years to make the change permanent.

Where is AARP?

I’ll bet that is a rhetorical question.

Advanced Age Revenue Producer.

AARP is nothing more than a financial products super store for the aged. Politically the elderly, are financing the opposition. Those conservatives who associate with them as tax helpers, volunteers, or product purchasers, do not understand what the organization stands for. They usually do a good job of concealing their motives. Except during the Clinton years.
