Kadima wins elections, but will it form the next government? Kadima and its Chairwoman, Tzipi Livni, are the big winners of the 2009 general elections, according to a Rafi Smith exit poll commissioned by Ynet, with Likud finishing a disappointing 2nd.
Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu delivered at crunch time to become Israel's third-largest party, while Ehud Barak's Labor party sustained a harsh blow. Exit polls by Israel's major television channels showed similar results

I’m not sure they challenge by lawsuit.No one really challenges the accuracy of the vote.
It is npw just a lot of wheeling and dealing to form a coalition with the magic number of 61 seats.
Most predictions have Bibi cobbling together a Right coalition with 63-65 votes.

As per your debate with newgeezer-
I am simply playing devil’s advocate here. I’d suggest you research the rise of both the modern Democratic Party and massive government spending. Both can be traced directly to the passing of the 19th Amendment.
I believe his point, that women tend to vote with their emotions more than their logic (in general, not across the board) can be easily borne out by researching election tallies. As to his point regarding the Founding Fathers, who advocated restricting the vote to only white males and whether they were ‘nuts’ - surely you must agree that his logic is interesting (if not tactful.)
I’m not advocating a repeal of the the 15th or 19th Amendments, nor am I asking you to, but doing so would destroy the Democratic Party and liberalism as political forces in this country. To wit:
2008 Presidential Election
Male 49-49% Obama/McCain
Female 56-43% Obama
White 55-43% McCain
Black 95-4% Obama
None of this means women can’t be good conservatives, good candidates, or just plain good. But they do, always have, and probably always will vote well to the left of men.

The question will be who gets the first shot at forming a coalition. Normally the first shot goes to whoever wins the most seats, Kadima/Livni. If she fails, then Likud/Bibi get a chance. Also, it’s possible President Peres would give Bibi the first shot, since his decision is based on which party has the best chance of forming a coalition, and that’s clearly Likud, the right wing parties having a majority, 63 to 65 seats, on their own. And these are exit polls, which aren’t always accurate.”
Peres is a jumble-brained, light-headed Leftist. Let’s hope he finally, finally matures really quick and makes Israel’s security top priority.

You are leaving the incorrect impression here about the political philosophy of yeshivot and their service in the army. There is a range of Yeshivot. The Religious Zionist Yeshivas are the backbone of the army produce the elite of the army. All of the students of their yeshivot serve in the army. They even serve longer than required, so they can alternative years with religious studies.
There are some yeshivot with a different religious outlook that do not send their students to the army. These devote full time to highest level study so that understanding of and transmission of Jewish tradition can continue into future generations. Israel stands or falls on the shoulders of both types of yeshivot.
I’m hopeful Netanyeahu can form the government anyway.
I can’t believe I thought Kadima was a good idea at first.
Labor is weakened but they’re butt buddy coalition partners with Kadima.

Shas Happy that ‘the Devil’ got Stronger

(IsraelNN.com) Shas chairman Eli Yishai spoke in glowing terms about the national camp’s strong showing in the elections and hinted broadly that his party would be happy to sit alongside Avigdor Lieberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu. These statements could be seen as surprising, in view of the fact that Shas’s last election commercials showed its spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, comparing a vote for Lieberman to support for the devil himself (HaSatan).
Yishai met with Likud chairman Binyamin Netanyahu for 90 minutes in the Likud’s Knesset offices early Wednesday afternoon.
When he came out of the meeting, Yishai spoke to reporters about the outcome of the election. Far from bemoaning the fact that support for “the Devil” has grown – he sounded very happy about it.
“It is a huge achievement, that the Likud rose by 15 Knesset seats, that Lieberman rose by 4 seats and that Shas maintained its strength,” he said. “It is a huge and impressive achievement, baruch Hashem.”
When asked whether his party could sit alongside Lieberman’s he reminded reporters that Yossi Sarid of Meretz once said “read my lips – we will not sit alongside Shas” but eventually did sit with Shas in the government...
It’s hard to put them on the same spectrum but I would say yes he is. Mostly, he wants Israel to be less apologetic about incorporating Jewish values in its governance. You can find his website at www.jewishisrael.org.
Netanyahu is opposed to this and has shunned Feiglin, including leaving conferences to avoid the possibility that they would have to shake hands.
The Founding Fathers were operating within the confines of the society and culture of the time.

A reading of Coulter, Malkin, Tammy Bruce or even Paglia would expose you to these same numbers, or at least the sentiment.
Sometimes reacting to presented facts with emotional rebuttals reminds me of the Dems too. That said, I did think he was being rude to you. If you perceived me as being so, it was unintentional.
If the poorer than expect result is because of Netanyahu’s downgrading of Feiglin that is very unfortunate.
Not in my view. Assuming that either Livni is asked to set up the government and fails, or Netanyahu is asked to do so, he will have to placate his right-wing and religious partners in order to make the government succeed, in a way that would not be the case if he had, say, 37 seats. If ten of his Members of Knesset resigns, then ten new members of his party would be appointed. If he alienates a 10-member party that is part of his coalition, then his coalition will collapse.

No, the left won’t abandon Labor. ...nor did I say it would. Again, the two most conservative parties (Likud and Yisrael Beiteinu) both made significant gains, so the resulting coalition gov’t will naturally be much more conservative.
