Live Thread: Senate Porkulus Vote

Posted on 02/10/2009 7:05:11 AM PST by NoGrayZone

I didn't see a live thread and I just can't watch this debacle alone.

Meagan Kelly on Fox said the FBC filed a lawsuit under the freedom of information act to find out where this "lost" 78 billion dollars went from the first "bailout".

Things are getting a tad bit too interesting for my taste!

Frankie: Meat thermometers?

Willie: Yeah! And I just shoved it into my ear, you know?

As far as it could go, you know? But then I took one o’ them, uh—?

Frankie: Ball-peen hammers?

Willie: Right. And just whacked it a few times right in there, you know.

Frankie: Boy, that must smart.

I’m looking. What’s he trying to do to the elders?

Kill them. The new government committee will decide if someone is young enough to get treatment. If they deem them "too old" treatment is denied.

For this bill, the approach seems to be to take radically different versions of the bill, one passed by the House, and one passed by the Senate, into conference committee to negotiate a compromise. Assuming that happens, the compromise language has to be passed by both chambers.

Expect the conference committee to produce a bill that contains all of the spending from the House plus all of the spending from the Senate. (We would not want to leave something out that might help the economy.) They could even add some new ideas that were not considered or were rejected in the House and Senate. As long as it's not enough to start losing Democrat support there will be no problem passing the final bill. Then there will be an up or down (party line) vote on the final bill.

With the cloture vote yesterday, we lost all procedural leverage to influence the bill. It's in the Dem's hands now. Makes you feel warm all over doesn't it - kind of like messing your pants.

hang this debacle around the necks of the RATs in 2010 and not let them up for air

Don't count on it. The dims buried an amendment deep in the bill that will give the US a one party system. I have said since it looked like Zero would be the one nominated, that we can't count on ever having another election, or at least not another free election.

Does the compromise bill require another cloture vote in the Senate?

Hmmmm, can you open your “allowed sites” and input hotmail? Hotmail has been funky since they changed their format. Now I get 2 boxes asking me if it’s okay to open.

Problem is - we are stuck with Obama for 4 years no matter what he pulls. He basically has a free rope to do whatever he wants. With a near super-majority in the Senate and a healthy one in the House, he is safe from any impeachment charges. He could give Iran a shipment of pre-assembled nukes and he would get a pass from his cronies in CONgress.

Actually, more like slitting my wrists in a tub and bathing in my own warm blood.

Are Republican senators going to be allowed to speak during this current “show”?

Assuming there is a GOP objection to limiting time for debate, yes, cloture will be required in order to advance to an up or down vote. There is no way to block taking the conference report up, but a senator can attempt to block voting on passage.
