U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) released the following statement as the Senate was set vote to end debate on an $827 billion economic stimulus package. Final Senate passage of the bill is scheduled to take place Tuesday afternoon. A senior member of the Finance Committee, Senator Snowe worked closely with Committee Chairman Max Baucus and Senate leadership to craft more than 65 percent of the stimulus compromise some $539 billion in critical tax incentives, Medicaid funding, and unemployment insurance. While supportive of the compromise voted on tonight, Senator Snowe stressed to both Vice President Biden and Majority Leader Reid, during conversations Monday morning, that her vote on final passage will be determined by the details of the conference report on the stimulus bill expected to be completed this week. Both the Vice President and the Majority Leader told Senator Snowe she would be directly involved in Senate-House conference committee process.
"Unemployment is at a 16-year high and hard-working families and businesses continue to struggle to make ends meet during one of the worst economic downturns in our nations history. This legislation represents a compromise created through consensus building between Republicans and Democrats. While I support the compromise in its current form, I will actively be involved in the conference committee process to ensure the final package provides the stimulative boost our economy needs job creation and assistance to those individuals and businesses struggling most during these trying economic times."
Of the $827 billion compromise, roughly 35 percent or $289 billion consists of discretionary spending. The remaining 65 percent, or $539 billion, which was crafted by Senator Snowe and the Finance Committee, covers: small business expensing to provide firms more rapid write-offs for making job-creating investments; the tax-free treatment of unemployment insurance benefits to help displaced workers, additional funding to expand the New Markets Tax Credit which has a proven track record of boosting economic development and creating jobs in rural areas in Maine and throughout the rest of the country. Additionally, the Finance portion of the stimulus bill also includes $87 billion for Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (FMAP) so that states can better meet the essential health care needs of Medicaid recipients during challenging economic times. As a result of this provision, which was added by Senator Snowe, the state of Maine is estimated to receive up to $420 million in additional federal Medicaid assistance.
Any Maine-acs out there? Was $420M worth her selling out her country??
Susie and Oly are going to take a lot of pork home to Maine.
When Bush was president, two or three votes from dem senators wasn’t considered “bipartisan” by the media.
How times have changed...
Start a PAC to defeat her now. When’s her re-election?
Dance, Senator, Dance!
Senator Snow:
My great grandchildren will be stuck paying off the monstrosity you voted for today.
It is perhaps the worst piece of legislation in our nation’s history.
It’s funds will be spent over a number of years, so it isn’t a stimulus bill.
It’s filled with paybacks to the supporters of the Democrats.
The funding for infrastructure is only only a few percent of the package.
There is a stealth nationalized health care plan inside it.
What would possess you to do what some 210 other Republicans refused to do, for good reason?
You must have some intellect, or you wouldn’t know how to cash your paycheck. And if you have that much going for you, you should have been able to see through this shameful pile of rubbish.
I am ashamed of you.

What about Collins and Arlen Spincter.
Specter is non-gratis in Bucks County, Pennsylvania from now until eternity.
Hey Snowe(job) - it’s ain’t bipartisan if only a few soon-to-be-kicked-out-office RINOs vote for it.
I’ve sent her a letter. I don’t vote in Maine, but we do have a summer address there, which I gave in the email.
I discovered a “Silver Lining” in Porkulus. Since our children, grandchildren and perhaps great-grandchildren will be footing the bill for this farce, 0 suddenly becomes somewhat prolife, anyone wanting an abortion of a child in upper income, very likely to suceed in life and be high income high tax bracket is denied that opportunity. Gotta pay the bills for 0! Sarcasim, maybe, maybe not. Who knows these depressing days.
The fly in your ointment, is that Pelosi, Reid, and Obama can’t think their way out of a paper bag. You make sense. Don’t expect them to. ;-)
> What about Collins and Arlen Spincter.
Collins was re-elected last year so the beyotch is safe for 6 more.
Specter is up in ‘10. Maybe Toomey can beat him this time. Or maybe he’ll do us all a favor and keel over.
money talks, even to these freezer temp idiots!
>> I dont vote in Maine, but we do have a summer address there
Ah, you’re one of “the rich”. :-)
Prepare to get squoze like a lemon.
I have a date with the Snowe-flake in '12, or more accurately working for her primary opponent and if necessary for her opponent in the general election. It doesn't get more evil than voting for an extra $1T in debt for our children so the liberals can have a bigger pie to give away to their deadbeat voters and big donors.
The citizens of the United States are going to be the injured party in this socialist take-over.
This treasonous trinity has to have enough common intelligence to know the harm that this stim-u-lie
is going to do to our nation over the long haul.
America will be unrecognizable in 2, 3, or 4 years from now.
And the socialist/democrats will be the elite ruling
class from now till dooms-day.
These three, knowing full well the consequences of the decision that they are about to make, aren't doing this
out of ignorance, which makes it a more hideous crime.
Judas after selling out Christ for thirty pieces of silver,
went to the potters field and hung himself.
I wish the same fate on these three.
