U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) released the following statement as the Senate was set vote to end debate on an $827 billion economic stimulus package. Final Senate passage of the bill is scheduled to take place Tuesday afternoon. A senior member of the Finance Committee, Senator Snowe worked closely with Committee Chairman Max Baucus and Senate leadership to craft more than 65 percent of the stimulus compromise some $539 billion in critical tax incentives, Medicaid funding, and unemployment insurance. While supportive of the compromise voted on tonight, Senator Snowe stressed to both Vice President Biden and Majority Leader Reid, during conversations Monday morning, that her vote on final passage will be determined by the details of the conference report on the stimulus bill expected to be completed this week. Both the Vice President and the Majority Leader told Senator Snowe she would be directly involved in Senate-House conference committee process.
"Unemployment is at a 16-year high and hard-working families and businesses continue to struggle to make ends meet during one of the worst economic downturns in our nations history. This legislation represents a compromise created through consensus building between Republicans and Democrats. While I support the compromise in its current form, I will actively be involved in the conference committee process to ensure the final package provides the stimulative boost our economy needs job creation and assistance to those individuals and businesses struggling most during these trying economic times."
Of the $827 billion compromise, roughly 35 percent or $289 billion consists of discretionary spending. The remaining 65 percent, or $539 billion, which was crafted by Senator Snowe and the Finance Committee, covers: small business expensing to provide firms more rapid write-offs for making job-creating investments; the tax-free treatment of unemployment insurance benefits to help displaced workers, additional funding to expand the New Markets Tax Credit which has a proven track record of boosting economic development and creating jobs in rural areas in Maine and throughout the rest of the country. Additionally, the Finance portion of the stimulus bill also includes $87 billion for Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (FMAP) so that states can better meet the essential health care needs of Medicaid recipients during challenging economic times. As a result of this provision, which was added by Senator Snowe, the state of Maine is estimated to receive up to $420 million in additional federal Medicaid assistance.
Maybe 0 can solve the Israel/Pali crisis by moving all the Palis over here. I hear he has a start. Perhaps he will get the “Grand Pubba” Nobel Prize for destroying America w/in 6 months!
Remember when Bush made President and some Freeper had a prayer posted for him everyday and we could post our own prayers for him if we wanted to? How cool it would be if someone from Snowes’ state of Maine would post a countdown on her till her election on 2012. It could start a few months before the elections and serve to remind those from Maine not to forget. They are counting on you from that state on having a short memory.
Snowe I would expect this from, but Specter...well, I guess I’d expect it from his spineless rear end too.
You must understand......Maine stands to gain a great deal. First Lady Caldonia has an insatiable appetite for Maine lobster.
Play for Pay.
S.O.P.
Sadly, I knew exactly which “GOP” senators would cave. Snowe never has been and never will be a conservative or represent conservatives in the party. She’s a bought and paid for RINO, that may as well be a RAT.
The new Chaffee.
Bipartisan: Indonesian word for “everyone shuts up and agrees with me.”
Did you actually send that ? See people on FR better learn FAST that preaching to the choir here accomplishes nothing much. We need to aggressively go out to the streets and take our country back. I feel we need to ORGANIZE. Pick ONE issue or ONE politician at a time and slam that one issue and be relentless about it . Once we change or stop that bill or person we then go after the next one. I’m NOT a great organizer but I’d like to give money and time to someone willing to be a patriot and FIGHT OBAMA and not just complain about him on here. We’re loosing the country folks in case you don’t know it !
I can still not confirm that there was some arm twisting by Obama and Rahm. The unconfirmed rumor is that there would be no more contracts for Bath Iron Works unless Snowe and Collins voted with Obama.
I agree. Sadly, it does.
Yes, I actually sent it.
Sent the whore a not too polite note.
Hang on, I think the authorities are here to talk about it.
there is 190,000,000 for resource managment at fish and wildlife. Maine lobsters are a resource managment issue. The ear marks are just hidden better

Snow was paid off in pork.
there is no “maine” in the text for finding the pork is based on knowing what is in maine.
Find the Pork, Stop Snow.
I like an occasional lobster myself, but we get them from local friends who go lobstering, not from the Gubmint.
