:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Critical Threats: Blank When None
Cheney warns of new attacks

Former Vice President Dick Cheney warned that there is a “high probability” that terrorists will attempt a catastrophic nuclear or biological attack in coming years, and said he fears the Obama administration’s policies will make it more likely the attempt will succeed.

In an interview Tuesday with Politico, Cheney unyieldingly defended the Bush administration’s support for the Guantanamo Bay prison and coercive interrogation of terrorism suspects.

And he asserted that President Obama will either backtrack on his stated intentions to end those policies or put the country at risk in ways more severe than most Americans — and, he charged, many members of Obama’s own team — understand.

“When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to do anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry,” Cheney said.

Thanks for the ping MamaD - seems all this govt does is wait and talk wait and talk while people die - military in particular.

There was a beautiful tribute to a fallen soldier in Afghanistan in our town - just about the whole town lined the streets with flags, it was an amazing thing to see. There were cranes with flags above several of the roads I was on going to Walmart. All the fire trucks were out with their lights on - sheriff, police even the electric co.

The tribute you mentioned is phenomenal in this day and age. Your town has the right spirit for sure!

Man admits using alias for immigration status

A Pakistani national in Florence has pleaded guilty to filing false statements to gain entry and citizenship, U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins said in a press release.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas E. Rogers III, accepted the plea from 29-year-old Sohail Feroz Ali Dossani, also known as Sohail Muhammad Jamal, and sentence him after reviewing presentence report by the U.S. Probation Office. Dossani faces a $1,000 fine and six months in prison.

On June 12, 2008,  someone told authorities he’d found two Pakistani passports bearing photographs of the same person but with different names. An investigation revealed that Dossani was a Pakistani citizen when he entered the United States using the assumed name of Sohail Jamal. He also used the name Jamal to obtain his permanent residency in the United States and tried to become a naturalized citizen using the false name by filling out and submitting immigration applications to the Citizenship and Immigration Services. Dossani admitted to using the false name during his October 2008 naturalization interview.

I encourage you to research the horrendous possiblity of encuring thousands of dollars worth of damage, due to broken water pipes because of a power outage.

IF you are sheltering in place in the cold winter, during a power outage, IF it isn't way too cold outside, you can frequently "babysit" the water pipes in your house -- by making sure that all faucets in the house are drip-drip-dripping.

But if you have to evacuate your home, and it is freezing cold outside, then ... I would shut off the water main to the house, and leave the faucets slightly open to drain out -- EMPTY water pipes will not break, as there is no water to freeze & expand within them.

Depending upon how long you expect to be gone, and depending on how cold the outside temp is, you may need to empty out the hot water heater, too -- I can't remember all the rules about leaving an empty house in the middle of winter.

Like you, I'll have to research further.

This reminds me of a NetFlix movie we just watched. “Taking Chance”......about a young Wyoming man, killed in Iraq, and the trip he made back home. Absolutely wonderful. Please watch it if you get the ‘chance’. It really shows the wonderful heart of America.

Shepard Smith on FOX News just announced that there has been a mass shooting at Fort Hood in Texas - with at least 7 dead and 12 others wounded. The gunman is said to be in custody. That’s all the details they have currently.

There are 2 suspects, one is in custody; both were wearing army fatigues - but identity of the suspects is currently unknown.

Oh no... the AP is reporting that they've been told by the Army that the number of the dead is not clear; also, there may be 2 shooters on the loose. The FBI is enroute to the scene, as are all available EMS personnel in the area. There is a THIRD shooter, and he is currently still shooting.

I just noticed something bizarre — I've not yet heard anyone state, "This is NOT a terrorist attack," — isn't that normally one of the very first things said?

Wait, on MSNBC, General McCaffery says that it does NOT sound like a terrorist incident, but rather a criminal enterprise.

Gangs?

Robbery?

The general says there are at least 100,000 people at Fort Hood -- that's a CITY, hey?

My last posting contains inaccurate information, as the
general at Fort Hood states that the gunman who is dead was a US soldier, and that he might have had 2 accomplices who are also US soldiers.

Malik Nadal Hassan - shooter - who’s now dead.

Alternate spelling in some articles - Malik Nidal Hassan.
