Evolutionists Hunger for Morality

Feb 09, 2009 — Nature is completely sold over to naturalistic evolution, yet cannot escape the question of morality. Science depends on morality, but it is not clear in their statements that they acknowledge any universal moral standard. Christian standards of honesty seem to be assumed. But if everything in biology (including human behavior) emerged by natural selection, then so did morality. Can one derive honesty, trust, or responsibility by an unguided natural process?...

Money quote:

Evolutionists want it but can’t get it. They don’t have the “natural resources" for morality. It must be imported. An embargo of Christian morality would make them starve.

Science depends on morality

This statement is idiotic even for you, and that's saying someting.

Science is the study of "IS". Morality is the study of "OUGHT". The dichotomy between the two is clear even to a common ignoramus (though not, apparently, to the above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty Ignoramus First Class).

Obnoxious un-Christian arrogant nonsense.

So you are saying that scientists don’t need to be truthful?

Yes.

If man wasn't a social animal, then he would have been much different from what he is, today. Those qualities enable the society to function.

There are multiple sources of this basic form of morality even in the most disconnected of peoples, and this underscores the point that these qualities enable the formation of societies, which in turn becomes a good guarantor for survival, to this day.

Science, just like Christianity, is dependent upon the morality of the practitioner.

Probably, since many of the "scientists" steve-b admires aren't.

Of course, this basic form of morality may be because, although fallen, we were originally made in HIS image.

Do you realize we have a president that is trying to spend us into another Great Depression and all you have time to do is alienate a large minority (I’m being generous to you calling evolutionists here, a minority) of CONSERVATIVES, here at FR????

What crap.

No, societies that lacked those qualities significantly, all died out.

One of the big reasons why we have Obama is because the GOP jettisoned one of the main pillars of the Reagan Coalition—the Christian Right. These people believe in a straightforward reading of Genesis, Global Flood, the Ten Commandments, the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, etc, etc. The more the GOP marginalizes the Christian Right, the more it loses. Go figure.

Quite right. But it depends on the meaning of “is.” (No, I’m not quoting Bill Clinton this time.) Materialists argue that only matter (or energy) “is.” Christians argue that that which ultimately IS—the Ground of Being—is God. And since Christian morality comes from God, “ought” comes from “is.”

Now, I’m not expecting materialists to accept that. But you yourself point out the difficulty being raised here—the difficulty of deriving “ought,” (What ought I to do?) from is, when “is” is basically a very large collection of material objects.

Premise is false. Most human behaviors that concern "morality" are learned behaviors.

"Telling the truth" is not a genetic trait.

PS Alienate the Christian Right, and Obama and his merry band of left-wing materialists keeps on winning. That’s a great strategy you’ve got there, Vaguero.

God created religion for the meek.
And science for the inquisitive.

Your insistence that those that those who are inquisitive lack morals is preposterous. And the fact that you use science (the Internet, computers, electricity, fiber optics...) to spout your nonsense is laughable.
