I think it speaks more to the absence of manufacturing firms than anything.
When we deindustrialized, the thinking was that service industries would be just as good as manufacturing to keep things going.
In this layman's opinion, the only thing that has kept the US economy going has been borrowed money.
I still don't see how you create wealth without manufacturing something.
Wasn’t Spatula City an early advertiser with Rush Limbaugh?
Many people don’t realize most of the Circuit City stores were Unionized long ago. I worked a strike against a dozen of their stores in Philadelphia in the late 1980’s.
“Something has got to give with the pharmacies. On my short 6 mile drive to work, I go through two intersection with a Walgreen’s, a CVS and a Rite Aid on three of the four corners. Surely we have gone beyond a saturation point of corner drugstores.”
I was thinking the same thing. I live in somewhat rural area and in my town, we have a Rita Aid and Walgreen’s right across the street from each other and of course we have a Walmart with Pharmacy a mile from them. Another mile down the road, we have another Rite Aid, which just opened, and a CVS. It’s nuts.
CC has been going broke for years. But he libtards will use it as a shining example................
Oops!
That’s the only one on the list that’s worth a damn!..........
Sbarro’s doesn’t make food............
Our local new stations have been warning people away from CC's closeout sales and it has CC ticked off. They reported that only minor items were marked down more than 10% and even the 10% markdown on big ticket items is quite often higher than other retailers.
They also reported that as the sale goes on the high end items will be replaced with those of a lesser quality, while the quality stuff will be sold to other retailers. They got this info from a store manager who wasn't worried about loosing a job he had already lost.
They sold me a used computer as new. I only learned that when I tried to get the rebate. It was already given on my comp.
Thanks for the list.
At my local McDonald’s they put in a machine outside called Redbox, all movies are a buck a night for the new and current releases.
Haven’t been back to a Blockbuster since.
Looks like the markets are a bit queezey too this morning....steep slide after only open for 45 minutes.
“Im kinda surprised that Sbarro didnt see the writing on the wall. Wasnt mall traffic pretty much down anyway because of more internet stores, etc?”
Yeah, they never branched out or advertised much to get neighborhood business. The only other place I see them besides malls is at airports, and at the airports they seem to do well.
I went to Circuit City to see what “deals” they had considering they claimed prices were 50 percent off.
I had been int the store recently before they announced closure. When I went in, I saw tons of idiots buying ridiculously marked-up stuff that was barely discounted off the earlier price.
Ridiculous. A game that originally was 50 was now 40 despite the sign claiming all PC games were 40 percent off. Still needed another 10 off to be 40.
I would guess they marked up prices about 20-30 percent before they started the close-out sales.
The son of a good friend works at a Circuit City near here. He said that basically circuit city's stock is now owned by a close out company or a liquidator. They put all the prices back to MSRP and then started discounting from there. They want to get their money's worth.
Wal-Mart prices on cables etc. was always about 10 bucks cheaper than Best Buy or Circuit City, sometimes even way cheaper than that.
Its a heavy load.
