16 illegals sue Arizona rancher
Washington Times ^ | 2/9/09 | Mikey_1962

Posted on 02/09/2009 5:53:32 AM PST by Mikey_1962

An Arizona man who has waged a 10-year campaign to stop a flood of illegal immigrants from crossing his property is being sued by 16 Mexican nationals who accuse him of conspiring to violate their civil rights when he stopped them at gunpoint on his ranch on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Roger Barnett, 64, began rounding up illegal immigrants in 1998 and turning them over to the U.S. Border Patrol, he said, after they destroyed his property, killed his calves and broke into his home.

His Cross Rail Ranch near Douglas, Ariz., is known by federal and county law enforcement authorities as "the avenue of choice" for immigrants seeking to enter the United States illegally.

Trial continues Monday in the federal lawsuit, which seeks $32 million in actual and punitive damages for civil rights violations, the infliction of emotional distress and other crimes. Also named are Mr. Barnett's wife, Barbara, his brother, Donald, and Larry Dever, sheriff in Cochise County, Ariz., where the Barnetts live. The civil trial is expected to continue until Friday....

"This is my land. I´m the victim here," Mr. Barnett said. "When someone´s home and loved ones are in jeopardy and the government seemingly can´t do anything about it, I feel justified in taking matters into my own hands. And I always watch my back."

Not guilty. That was easy. Next case, please.

I would have done the same. Apparentaly some people don’t here the word ILLEGAL. Whether their “civil rights” were violated or not doesn’t matter. They don’t have any. They shouldn’t anyway.

If we’re lucky, someone in his family will be mugged by an illegal; then maybe he’ll see the light.

Sutton is not involved.

Roger Barnett is a lightning rod for groups like MALDEF, which is funding this current lawsuit.

He was found partially at fault for an earlier incident, and now the sharks smell blood in the water.

There’s also something about kicking a woman, which I highly doubt.

Roger would never kick a woman.

This group was robbed at gunpoint by banditos the night before they crossed, and I believe one or more of the women were raped.

When's the last time the U.S. has hung a spy? I don't even know.

WWII, I believe.

It has all happened before:

American insanity
September 28, 2005

Excerpt:

In March 2003, Casey Nethercott caught two illegal aliens sneaking onto his 70-acre Texas ranch, which he used his life savings of $120,000 to buy earlier that year. Edwin Alfredo Mancia Gonzales and Fatima del Socorro Leiva Medina had trekked through Mexico from El Salvador when they stumbled on to Nethercott's ranch.

Though the pair admitted Nethercott's ranch hands provided them with cookies, water and a blanket and let them go after an hour, the illegal invaders enlisted the legal help of Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center to represent them in a suit charging they were abused by Nethercott.

Because Nethercott was in possession of a gun illegally, he got five years at the hands of Texas prosecutors.

And since he was in jail and unable to defend himself against Dees' civil lawsuit, Nethercott's ranch was seized and handed over to the illegal aliens.

My only question is, unless the rancher was already a convicted felon, HOW could he have been “in possession of a gun illegally” if he was on his OWN property, in TEXAS?

Are there any Texans who can shed some light on this?

Two illegals who should have been deported are now living comfortably in the land of the free and home of the brave – the recipients of visas available to immigrants who are victims of crimes and cooperate with authorities. They are living on a ranch they stole, with the complicity of the government. An American is in jail, and illegals who trespassed on his property have taken ownership of his home.

I think I now understand the reason behind this thread's subject and the story about the above quote. Nothin' like a free ride to legal citizenship.

I'm disgusted. How much more ridiculous can it get?

...."getting billions in the Obama stimulus.".....

They got money from Tarp 1 in the BUSH administration. We worry about Thain's million for his bathroom, but this must be a worthy cause for tax money. This was on or near the DAY Citi got it's money because it was bankrupt. They found a million for La Raza for promoting "no doc", sub prime loans at Citi. Obama had sued Citi for "red lining" area's while he was a lawyer in Chicago and won the suit.

If you are already a convicted felon in Texas, you CANNOT be in possession of a firearm, even on your own property. You cannot buy one, or just hold one, even if it belongs to someone else.

This is why you see the cops hold up the guns for the 6 oclock news camera's when they kick the door in of a perp. Even if they don't find the dope, they got you if you have a gun and you are already a convicted felon.

Kinda like getting Capone for tax evasion.

Right. That’s pretty much the law everywhere.

But the article states that the rancher was in illegal possession of a gun. is there any OTHER way, besides a felony conviction, in which a prperty owner in Texas can be in “illegal” possession of a gun?

Well, the sign should be in Spanish... and it should be angry badgers, not pitbulls.

I thought there was something about facing your accuser... not a bunch of attorneys.

I heard about that case. It just goes to show that illegals have more rights and privileges than U.S. citizens. Maybe it’s time we donned sombreros and started calling ourselves Juan and Juanita, then maybe we’d have some rights around here.
