A year into the war, hundreds of men from other parts of the Muslim world had arrived in Bosnia. Many had come to train. Some - though we did not know it at the time - had already fought in Afghanistan.
We Western reporters knew they were there. What we did not know is that they were already part of a nascent global jihad led by a group whose name was not yet familiar to us: al-Qaeda. We thought them a sideshow - irrelevant to the much more compelling dynamic of the war between actual Bosnians. .....

I’m sorry, whose side were we on during that war?
Funny how these stories seem to dribble out long after the damage is done.
Too bad half them BBC reporters weren’t killed, it would have helped the other half form an opinion on moral relativity.
Actually some of these stories were around at the time and shortly after. But when anyone tried to bring them to the world's attention, they got smeared as "Serb propagandists".
But it does seem that before we were fighting "a War on Terror", we were fighting "a War FOR Terror", knowingly or unknowingly.
The stories of mujahideen activity around Zenica (which was assisted by Bin Laden from his Sudan perch in/about April 1992) were not really given much circulation. The first real notice that the operation in Bosnia was receiving muj support surfaced in an was given by Fisk in his interview of Bin Laden held in Khartoum in December 1993.
1991: US Convinces Bosnian President to Renege on Agreement Lawrence Eagleburger sends Warren Zimmerman to Sarajevo to encourage Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic to renege on an agreement brokered by Lord Carrington that would have prevented the breakup of Yugoslavia. Because of this and other similar incidents, Sir Alfred Sherman, a close colleague of Margaret Thatcher and a staunch US Cold War ally, later describes American intervention in the Balkans as a policy of lying and cheating, fomenting war in which civilians are the main casualty, and in which ancient hatreds feed on themselves. [Sherman, 3/2/1997]

On TV, then they break for decapitiation. Between prayers.
You bet. Eagleburger is also a buddy of Geroge Soros .
Henry Kissinger, former U.S. Secretary of State, and Lawrence Eagleburger, former Assistant Secretary of State and former Ambassador to Yugoslavia: Kissinger first opened the economy of Yugoslavia to western investment as member of the U.S. government in the Nixon and Ford administrations. Eagleburger served in the Reagan administration. In 1976 after leaving government they became founding partners in a private company, Kissinger Associates, Inc., which reaped investment profits in Yugoslavia from the very opportunities they had created while in government. Eagleburger actually served as director of a scandal-ridden Yugoslav bank and as American representative for the Yugo automobile - only to turn around and launch the devastating first call for secession of Yugoslavia's wealthier republics that led to the nation's ultimate near-dissolution and civil war.
The new world odor approaches!
Thanks very much for posting this, Bokababe.
Those of us who were tuned into the events in Bosnia from the very beginning could see that there were players involved in the war on the ground that were definitely not of “Yugoslavian” origin.
The Serbs were fighting the war on terror in Bosnia long before 9/11. It is a terrible shame that America chose the wrong side in that war and actually supported and enabled the Moslem terrorists in Yugoslavia in the 1990s and beyond.
Bush 1 then Clinton 1 truly betrayed America’s loyal ally in the Balkans with their anti-Serb foreign policy. Then Bush 2 rewarded the terrorists by giving them Kosovo.
It will be interesting to see what President Obama does. If he really is the proponent of “Change” that he makes himself out to be, he will reach out to the Serbs and say “We need to make things right”. Given, however, the olive branches Obama seems intent on extending to the Moslem world, and God help us all if that continues, I’m not too hopeful.
Things in the Balkans aren’t over.
Surely the BBC is being controlled from Belgrade. < / sarcasm >
But but but the US Department of State claimed that al-Qaeda was not on Bosnia... Oh my...
Silly rabbit, everyone knows the BBC is controlled by Milosevich from beyond the grave.
