McCain: Stimulus 'a setback to change' ["I thought we were going to have change"]
Politico ^ | Josh Kraushaar

Posted on 02/08/2009 11:43:05 AM PST by rabscuttle385

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said on Sunday he'll vote against President Barack Obama’s stimulus bill, calling the legislation “generational theft” in an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

I thought we were going to have change," he said, in a shot at Obama's campaign slogan, "and that change meant we work together. This is a setback. This is a setback to all Americans because you promised Americans we’d work in a more bipartisan fashion, and that certainly is not the case in this bill,” McCain said.

McCain said the bill would saddle Americans with billions in future debt, and contained protectionist provisions that could be damaging to the economy.

“We’re going to amass the largest debt in the history of this country by any measurement, and we’re going to ask our kids and grandkids to pay for it,” McCain said.

“I know we’re in trouble. I know America needs a stimulus, we need tax cuts, we need to spend money on infrastructure and other programs that will put people to work. But this is not it.”

Demint himself knows that a $450 B bill is better than an $850 B bill.

No, he didn't. No one voted for it. The amendment never went to vote.

There was only a motion to waive the a portion of the Budget Act (because McCain's amendment was in violation) -- that is what DeMint voted in favor of. It lost.

2/5/2009:
Motion to waive the Budget Act with respect to amendment SA 364 rejected in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote.
40 - 57. Record Vote Number: 45.

Oops... my comment was in response to your contention of "Demint himself voted for McCain's bill."

That is the quote I meant to include in my post.

It was a party line vote 57-40.

It was a party line vote 57-40.

Irrelevant.

It was a procedural vote, not a vote on the amendment itself.

Your assertion was incorrect that DeMint voted for the amendment.

My bad.

No telling how Demint would have voted, but if it had a chance for passage over the current mess chances are quite high he would have backed McCain's bill.

It had a lowering of middle and lower tax rates along with a hefty reduction in corporate tax rates. Infrastructure included shoring up equipment in Iraq and Afganistan. Far, far better for the economy than the mess we're seeing.

Some of the same ones that moaned and groaned through the entire campaign are furiously working to keep Obama and the Dem Party from driving America into into socialistic hell.

Sorry. The ol' "Our socialism is better than the socialism we have now" crap won't work. The Republicans paved the way. There is no high ground to be found there, unless the party were to refute it's moderate leaders, which it will not, and did not do. Even now, it is not so much a matter of difference as it is a difference in degree.

So third party and Ron Paul supporters what are you doing?

The same as I have always done- Just not through the Republicans anymore. I support Reagan Conservatism and Evangelical Pro-Life venues- The same as I always have.

You are to afraid to even identify the party you belong to and what it stands for...

I belong to no party, as I have declared often. Your accusation that I am "afraid" is ludicrous. I was a staunch Republican for 27 years, until the summer of '07, when I quit them, part and parcel, like so many others have...

What I stand for is Reagan Conservatism- Quite like I always have, from the very day I signed on here. I supported Duncan Hunter and Alan Keyes in this election season. As to the AIP, and Alan Keyes, If I were to join a party now, that is the one which most closely fits my principles.

“He is light years better than Obama, and his election would have been far better for the country.”

Let’s get back to reality for a moment, yes?

John McCain would’ve had the same Democrat supermajority Obama has. John McCain would have compromised with them. In other words, John McCain would have caved. It’s not in his character to fight Democrats when it actually counts. John McCain would not veto a bill marketed to the American people as some magic investment into infrastructure and education and whatever else. It would make him look bad.

The real scum of the earth is John McCain.

Why do you suggest that we "get back to reality for a moment" and then offer nothing but conjecture?

The real scum of the earth is John McCain.

Your comment calls for a far nastier response than enforced propriety will allow me to make.

I hope you took a long time thinking about your post (although from what I've read before, that may not be possible). Like I said, it wasn't worth reading, so I didn't. You're simply a 1% fool who thinks you're the purist, and only you.

Have a happy life.

Look here, studly, NO ONE who voted their conscience and left the presidential line blank or wrote in someone or voted third party had anything to do with McLame’s loss. Juan did it to himself, pure and simple. The SOLE reason I voted for him was Sarah Palin, but to many she was too little too late and I can understand that. So get over it: McLame shot himself in the groin and lost the election ALL BY HIMSELF. As much as I loathe Obambi, I am hardly sorry McLame is not the one there to try foisting Porkulus on us.

Are you sure you need the word “catcher” in your tagline? Seems to me you’d be more accurate without it.

Haven’t you had enough posts pulled? And if it’s not ok for a 20-something computer science major to call McLame an idiot, then I’ll say it FOR him: McLame is an idiot of the worst sort and always HAS been... and what’s “heroic” about getting shot down, anyway? As for his behavior as a POW, there have always been several sides to that, but given his behavior as a politician, I’m inclined to believe the “sellout” tales some of his fellow prisoners have told.

No wonder McCain's "groin leeches" are pissed off real fierce as of late.

(I couldn't resist.)

*ducks for cover*

Chunga's strategy usually consists of attacking my age and my enrollment at a major public University.

Pretty sad, eh?

Yeah, but I get credit for THIS post...

“So get over it: McLame shot himself in the groin...”

and I want full credit when the Groin Leeches come a-calling. While I give you full credit for being game, as a sixty-something retired Marine, I think I have an edge on coping with the idiots.
