WASHINGTON – Republicans are making another run at overturning a ban on unlimited "soft money" contributions. Their Democratic rivals say it is an attempt to bring big money back to politics because the GOP can't keep up with President Barack Obama's fundraising machine.

The Republican National Committee is suing to overturn part of a ban on unlimited contributions passed by Congress in 2002 and upheld by the Supreme Court a year later.

Thanks to CFR and Senators McCain and Feingold.

Maybe they should just take unlimited small donations on credit cards from foerign interests like Obama.

When did "big money" ever leave in the first place?

Of course it is. Why should Obama only be allowed to raise that kind of funds. I still can’t believe that McCain took tax payer money. What is wrong with him? He was the welfare candidate and he is an alleged Republican...what is wrong with that picture?????

Time to up the max that can be contributed by donors — don’t have a problem making it sky is the limit for individual donors but do have a problem with PAC money from the unions being donated in unlimited amounts. I am for accountability starting at the $1 donation — we need the same info for the $1 donor as the $2500 donor. Having accountability for donors that can be verified will dry up Obama’s donors.

Some of those Obama donors will run for the hills like Mickey and Minnie Mouse as they don’t exist in reality and were probably using Soros money to make those small contributions under different names and from overseas. Turning off credit card security said it all — illegal donations.

Limiting money limits free speech. End of story.

If you want fascism go with McCain and Feingold. If you want freedom, seek to eliminate both.

Hmmm maybe it would have been a good idea to try this when they were in the Majority. Seems like the GOP doesn’t get the concept that a majority is how bills are passed...

When republicans were in the majority and could actually have passed some legislation in the public interest they couldn’t spare the time.
They were too busy porking out on taxpayer money to actually look ahead.

Now that they are practically powerless they have (supposedly) rediscovered their ethics, judgement and their love of lower spending and smaller government.
How many stopped to question why so many democrats were for McCain/Feingold if it was was such a great idea and would level the playing field?

When it comes to long range objectives and planning to strengthen the party, the democrats are masters and republicans are inept bunglers.
Obama and his staff may look like amamtuers right now but they sure knew how to manipulate the system to steamroller opposition during the campaign.

They have at least four years to make changes that will give them a lock on the majority of voters.
When Obama gets the country and the government rearranged to his liking republicans may never win another national election.

I am for unlimited contributions but making every last dollar be accounted for with filling out the same paperwork as the big donors. Credit cards only belonging to the individual could be used and not ones you go buy at Walmart. I never did agree with limiting contributions but I have always wanted accountability for every last dollar and where it came from.
