President Obama has been in office less than a month, but that hasn't stopped many West Michigan firearms dealers from referring to him as "gun salesman of the the year."

"I'm not real big on having a huge inventory, particularly of different similar calibers,..."

You're probably wise to keep things simple, though properly stored ammunition can last a very long time.

Simplicity notwithstanding, when it comes to new guns and different chamberings...I've got the morals of a crackwhore. I even handload wildcat cartridges.

I’m glad you’re happy with it. If nothing more, you know I’m honest when I build up a gun as a good buy.

Now you need one in 280 rem and 25/06...lol.

Walmart has not restocked here since December. Not sure why. If they are waiting for a ammo bill to pass (as some have said here) they may not be restocking for quite awhile.

Just purchased a Glock .40 cal myself. Getting a 44 mag lever action next. Stockpiling ammo after that. Things move fast in this Congress. Gun control is only a few months away, just watch.

Maybe a nice 9mm Beretta pistol and a carbine to go with it next. Not sure about a 22 yet.

ALL gun owners need to get in the fight... Join the GOA,NRA and your State or Local Gun Rights Group NOW!

Don't wait for the battle to come to you, take it to the people trying to strip you of your rights... If the Second Amendment falls, all other rights go with it!

Don't be surprised. I've been tempted a few times by 25-06's, but like you said, .280's are rare. Owners don't seem to want to part with them. Do let me know when you get bored with yours (I know, I know...and the horse I rode in on too).

“Not sure about a 22 yet.”

Hard to go wrong with a Ruger 10-22.

Semi-auto that is the next best thing to jam proof.

10 shot detachable mag standard, with 30 and 50 shot mags readily available, and cheap.

Tons of aftermarket goodies available for them, stocks, barrels, mags, etc.

I tell them it’s a skill that could help get them nice college scholarships someday.

I have a fellow employee who lives in northern Virginia. His daughter is on a full ride scholarship due to her nationally ranked markmanship skills. It's in the real of possible. Slightly better odds than succeeding at professional sports.

I reload most of my centerfire ammo. My common calibers at .30, .357 and .45. The Speer 100 gr Plinker is satisfactory for use in the .308, 30-30 and 30-06 applications. A 200 gr .452 is functional for 45Auto, 45LC, 454 Casull and 460. There is a caveat with the 45. Some of the bullets suitable for 45Auto and 45LC aren't suitable for the higher pressures in the 454 Casull or 460. You have to load "puff balls". That's perfectly fine for plinking and steel spinners. You want to buy first quality bullets if you are pushing 454 Casull or 460 through anything with a comp.

The 10-22 is a very reliable rifle. I picked up a version done by Magnum Research with a custom receiver including an integral Picatinny rail and carbon fiber barrel. It didn't shoot reliably. I had to replace the firing pin and get a slightly heavier hammer spring. Now it works reliably. I added a recoil buffer as well so I didn't have to listen to the bolt slapping the inside of the receiver. The version for 17M2 worked flawlessly out of the box. I have an early 10-22 with a Williams Firesight (rear peep and front fiber optic post). That is very reliable. Excellent for hunting cotton tail rabbits.

Call him present obama ( President without ID).

Interestingly enough, while looking through my gun safe today, I found a document called "Certificate of Live Birth" with my name on it. Not Birth Certificate. NOW I get what all the hooha is all about.

Anyone interested in guns that have already been used to defend freedom should consider buying form Civilian Marksman Program. http://www.thecmp.org/

Prices have gone up but they are pieces of our history.

How about a 270 MR-7 ?

If this one goes for anything close to the current bid, it’s a steal!

Every time someone says President Obama I about puke. That sorry POS does not deserve to be called President.

Sometimes I have Fox News on television or perhaps the AM radio playing while working and doing other chores. At least three or four times now I'm half listening and the newscaster mentions "the president". I have a few second delay where I stop and realize it's not George W. Bush they are talking about. When they say "the president" my mind still brings up a picture of G.W. Bush...

I don't reload. The only issues I've ever had with ammo was I bought some .45 reloads once, and they had a flattened tip. About every fourth round would jam in my Colt Combat Commander. Never had a jam with anything else, so I'm sure it was that the flat tip wouldn't slide up properly. I practically never get + ammo, but stick with stuff well within the range of the weapon frame. I'm just not sure how good it is for a weapon to be pushing ammo that exceeds the specifications. I also stick with name brand. Just cause it's in a store doesn't mean it's good.

On the weapons themselves, I'm not an expert, so I stick with weapons that are manufactured by good reputable companies. I owned a cheapo .22 pistol once, and every time you fired, a small chunk of metal would fly out the side. I think the chambering clipped a tiny piece of the casing. Caught one in the cheek, and sold the gun to a guy for very little, but warned him about the problem and why I was selling it.

The feed ramp on the Colt Commander has a flat area at the bottom. You really shouldn't use ammo with a flat point in that firearm. Anything with a smooth ogive should feed just fine.

I never put hot loads in my firearms. It's all to SAAMI spec or less. My wife's Sig 225 doesn't like most commercial ammo. I found an ideal mix of bullet weight and powder charge to cycle it flawlessly. Some firearms like the Ruger Deerfield Carbine in 44 mag have a very narrow range of acceptable ammo. The bullet weights are limited to 200 to 240 gr. The powder charge on "cowboy" ammo will fire, but doesn't produce enough gas to operate the piston. PMC 240 gr JHP cycles it perfectly.

Getting rid of that cheapo .22 was a good move. It's a shame that another person has to continue dealing with it. Improperly or unsafely operating firearms just give fodder to the anti-gunners to add more regulations or bans.
