Rattling the Cage: The moral superiority of an F-16
The Jerusalem Post ^ | 2009 0204 | By LARRY DERFNER

Posted on 02/07/2009 9:16:07 PM PST by Jet Jaguar

Ordinarily, we Israelis tell ourselves that we are morally superior to the Palestinians because they're terrorists and we're not, they deliberately target civilians and we don't. After this last war in Gaza, though, we can't really tell that to ourselves because it's not very convincing.

After all, Hamas only killed three civilians with rockets during the war, while we killed several hundred Gazan civilians with all sorts of hi-tech weapons. Hamas did very little property damage here, while we destroyed thousands upon thousands of Gazan homes and civic buildings. So the argument that the Palestinians fight civilians and we don't is a little too farfetched, a little too ridiculous, to convince ourselves of our moral superiority in Operation Cast Lead.

This time, we don't talk so much about terrorism, about how the Hamasniks made war against our civilians. Instead, we talk about human shields, about how the Hamasniks used Palestinian civilians for protection while they were fighting our soldiers. The point remains - they fight dirty and we fight clean.

As I've written, we're distorting the meaning of the term "human shields" for propaganda purposes. Palestinian civilians offered little or no protection to Hamas fighters during the war: The civilian death, injury and property damage toll in Gaza makes that pretty clear. During the war, we heard time and again from the army that the standing order was to "fire at the source of incoming fire"

SO IF the Palestinians weren't fighting a terror war this time because they were up against an army,

They fought a guerrilla war.

Geez. This guy must have read my comments here during the fight. It shouldn't take a general to recognize a guerilla war when you see one. But I'm glad he got it.

Until you are ready to Kill them All.. to Beat on then until they are Unable to ask you to STOP, you will have to do this over and over and over and over..

CNN, no FRIEND of Israel, even had to admit, once (only once) that Israel showed Remarkable Restraint.

I agree. Hit them when they are down, and then hit them again.

There is no fair fight when you have the possibility of loosing.

The truth is that this time, the Palestinians fought much cleaner than we did. It wasn't because they're better than we are, it was but because they didn't have the ability to do more damage than they did, while we used our superior ability to the extreme. We bashed their brains in. We were like a 280-pound wrestler beating up a kid. All in all, we're better than Hamas, but this time we, not they, were the bad guys.

I don't think he gets it.

It's a complete absurd. "Human shields" almost never "offer" themselves to "fighters", they are literally used - by firing from the hospitals, apartment buildings, from behind the forcefully retained civilian crowd, etc...

Come to think of it, author is the one who is distorting "the meaning". Big time.

If this guy has some evidence that the Israelis deliberately targeted civilians, let him present it to any one of a number of US and international media outlets that will be happy to expose it for him. On the other hand, if his argument is that Hamas was not as successful at killing innocent civilians, or inflicting serious damage to civilian (actually “dual use”) infrastructure as they (and their Iranian friends) hoped they’d be, then his is a specious argument at best. What would he have the IDF do, fire their own version of Kassam rockets (presumably just as inaccurate as the Hamas version), and cease firing after they’d killed only as many guerrillas (and/or civilians, since they’re kind of hard to tell apart) as the total number of Israeli civilian casualties?

“So is “derfner” Yiddish for moron?”

You got me, but from the tone of his article, he sounds suicidal. Anyone who engages in this level of “navel gazing”, when their neighbors are doing their best to kill you is really demonstrating a startlingly poor set of survival skills. This pacifist segment of the Israeli population has always been a threat to that states survival. ‘Bibi is their best hope right now.

Otherwise, it's only a matter of time until a nuke gets tunneled, dropped or launched into Tel Aviv. Passive inaction, especially in that part of the world is only going to get the Israeli's killed.

If this guy has children, he is certainly doing them no favors in attempting to perpetuate passivity towards these venomous snakes that truly don't deserve the “statehood” that they profess to seek. Let Israel eliminate the threat by whatever method they choose. In the end, a military resolution is far superior to this war of attrition that Israel has endured.

End the threat, permanently, and the Mideast will be better for it. If it is done, Israeli and Palestinian children will thank their parents twenty years from now. Continue to tolerate this Islamist proxy state as it stands, and everyone involved will be eradicated eventually.

“Derfner”

That name just HAS to be made up. It had to be from the fertile mind of a comedy writer, who was looking for a label in order to let people know that this character was so incredibly stupid, that it’s amazing that he’s able to both write and breath at the same time.

At least, that’s the idea I get from his column. From his bleating that “it’s not fair that we killed a whole bunch of them, but they only killed 3 of us,” I realized that his article was actually from a scene taken (and deleted) from Mel Brook’s “Springtime for Hitler” play within a play. The problem is that Brooks must have realized that even in his comic brilliance, there are some things that are so far fetched that NOBODY could possibly believe this sort of nonsense, even in a comedy. I mean, for comedy to be “good,” there has to be at least a sprinkling of truth and reality - just a tiny bit.

But this “Derfner” is so far beyond “reality” that it’s just bad comedy. Not funny, though he’s desperately trying to be.

So the argument that the Palestinians fight civilians and we don't is entirely correct. Palestinians not only direct their fire toward civilians, but hide behind their own civilians.

This guy has not thought it through. What if the IDF did not do what he considers to be fighting civilians? Why then Hamas would continue and increase its attacks, while Israel would not be able to fire back AT HAMAS. To avoid "fighting civilians," the IDF would have to avoid all fighting.

Sometimes a simple plodding argument is all that's required to show what's wrong with the thinking of the geniuses on the other side.

Once again, Larry Derfner demonstrates how he earned the nickname "Moonbat."

Any Israeli Jew whose heart bleeds for Hamas is a total nitwit.
