GOP Senators Risk Political Backlash Over Support of Stimulus Bill Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter have risked the wrath of their fellow Republicans and constituents to help push the controversial economic spending plan over the finish line

Until Friday, President Obama's plea for bipartisanship support of his costly plan for stimulating the economy mostly had fallen on deaf GOP ears, but that changed when three Republican moderates pledged their support.

In doing so, Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Sen. Arlen Specter risked drawing the wrath of their fellow Republicans and of some constituents

The trio's support is expected to give Democrats the 60 votes needed in the Senate to advance to a final vote on the $827 billion stimulus bill next week -- and ultimately push the controversial mix of massive spending and tax cuts over the finish line.

Arlin Specter almost lost in the primaries last time. He is up for re-election in ‘10. I understand he will run, but this time he doesn't have a Repub president going to bat for him.
He is not a Republican. Just switched parties when the opportunity came to run for the Senate.

Just a little FYI..I have supported the RNC and all republican candidates my entire life (I am 44 yo.) both financially and by grassroots work. If you dare to support this piece of crap pork spending bill THAT GIVES MONEY TO ACORN...my frickin tax dollars to ACORN...ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! I will NEVER support the RNC in anyway again except to give money and work my tail off to anyone who runs against you. HOW DARE YOU COMMIT MY MONEY TO THIS PIECE OF CRAP LEGISLATION!

This b**ch is obviously not acting in good faith. If she didn’t vote for it, what is the endgame? She and Specter could go to Reid and say she won’t vote for it unless it is amended such that it is in fact the McCain proposal. At that point, what can the democrats do? They would have to take it or do nothing. Is she prepared to say that the democrats proposal is more responsible than the McCain proposal? Such a statement would be inconsistent with her comments in the Senate two nights ago.

Any organism can withstand a certain amount of insult and injury. Like surviving a virus attack. Coupled with the Party of Evil, Collins, Snowe and Specter push the amount of foreign body insult and injury up to the danger zone for America.

What this Fox story clearly shows is the people of Maine supporter the twisted sisters of Maine no matter what they do. We cannot fight this if their own constituents don’t give a darn.... and how does anyone justify punishing the other GOP senators and potential senators because the people of Maine don’t care what their elected representatives do.
