GOP Senators Risk Political Backlash Over Support of Stimulus Bill Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter have risked the wrath of their fellow Republicans and constituents to help push the controversial economic spending plan over the finish line

Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Sen. Olympia Snow, also of Maine, have broken with other Republicans to support the Democrats' plan for spending and tax cuts to stimulate the economy. (AP)
Until Friday, President Obama's plea for bipartisanship support of his costly plan for stimulating the economy mostly had fallen on deaf GOP ears, but that changed when three Republican moderates pledged their support.
In doing so, Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Sen. Arlen Specter risked drawing the wrath of their fellow Republicans and of some constituents
The trio's support is expected to give Democrats the 60 votes needed in the Senate to advance to a final vote on the $827 billion stimulus bill next week -- and ultimately push the controversial mix of massive spending and tax cuts over the finish line.

Here again are the phone numbers for the turncoat Republicans:

Snowe (202) 224-5344
Specter (202) 224-4254
The Congressional Budget Office says the Obama Stimulus will hurt the economy.
I long ago quit contributing to the Republican Party. I make my donations to individual CONSERVATIVE Republican candidates.
If Democrat senators did this, they would be denied funds and support by the party. That is how party discipline is enforced.
“GOP Senators Risk Political Backlash Over Support of Stimulus Bill”
The way I see it, there is no where to go but up for the Republicans. Maybe be standing their ground they will pull this party and the people back together. They let the polls rule them when Bush’s popularity started to falter, rather than stick with him and his party they panicked. Look where it got them, I hope they understand.
You still want the bill to fail?? Call them and ask why republican Senators (3 RINOs) are writing the bill when 'us liberal democrats' won the election and worked our hearts out for Obama last year. Demand all the pork , err critical social investments, be put back in the bill at conference. Us socialist liberals waited 8 years for this. Demand justice! Make the bill so bad that even the RINOs cant vote for it. Can you imagine if the three turned against it after conference?? Imagine the press stories
Why would you would think I don't realize that?
When I was in school, sometimes the whole class paid when only a couple were misbehaving. It leads to positive peer pressure (usually.) That's what needs to be done here.
Yes, that’s correct.
I’ll send it to individuals who are conservatives and pro-life causes.
His coherence and appearance suggest that he isn't going to have to worry about running for office again. Without the fear of getting booted from the House of Lords, I suspect that he will do a bit of acting and invoke an "independent" or "maverick" stance that will allow him a desperate grab for a bit of Comrade Zero's hopey-changey mojo.
The GOP would be absolutely justified in letting the jerk ride into well-deserved historical oblivion having been stripped of everything the party can bestow (such as it is), leaving no one but Snowe and Collins to hold his hand and mumble about how "patriotic" the three of them are.
Yeah, that's harsh. So is the death of freedom because some Scottish-law spouting big shot charged with upholding the Constitution failed to challenge the fascists when he had the chance.

They are a cancer that has eaten away at this great nation by sending our jobs overseas, opening our borders, and debasing our currency. They are all part of the same hypocrisy.
When the day of reckoning finally comes the hangings should begin in New York. They destroyed this country to make themselves masters of the universe and are leaving the rest of us to pay the bills.
It is the certainty.
where is the rnc adds running or some other pac. move on did it why arent we?
The next best thing for Republicans to do in '10 is run away from this bill. The socialist media is going to try and hang this bill around ALL Republicans' necks in '10.
Collins just got reelected last year and she has indicated that this might be her last term so going after her is futile. Snowe is highly respected in Maine and will be hard to defeat in a primary. Ditto for Specter.
In honor of Collins and Snowe- I am done with all products that originate in Maine.
LL Bean ,blueberries and maple syrup.
Collins and Snowe could care less if their phones are jammed.
I wonder if these industries also support Collins and Snowe and Pork and Awe ?

Hopefully, if the next ballot box doesn't do the job, the cancer will do the necessary work (modern version of "may a pox be upon you").
I think it’s $5,000,000 to acorn (American Communist Obama Re-election Network). Then tonight I hear that one of the bailed-out banks gave them another 2,000,000. Folks, that’s OUR MONEY that’s going to perpetuate this assault on our liberty.
As someone wrote me the other day, they don’t think we are real. I have never been so furious at our government, and I’m being assured it’s going to get even worse.
I sure hope you’re right. I am so sick of these so-called “Republicans.” Time for conservatives to take this country back. Oh, how I miss the days of Ronald Reagan!
We can only hope. What turncoats! No true Republican should support this porkulus bill that is being rammed through on an “emergency” basis.
